I contracted with them a few weeks ago. All my documents were coming in and everything seemed set. I was going to start teacher training in a few days, then full teaching June 1. I was going to have to do a Visa run, but that was inevitable and is a normal part of doing business with foreigners in Korea.
Now, two days before I was set to arrive in Seoul, they've decided that hiring a new teacher would just be too much work, so they worked something out with their old teacher. Which leaves me with a non-refundable ticket to Seoul, very little money, and no job prospects when I get there.
SLP Ilsan officially screwed me over because it just be too hard for them to hire new.
I'm depressed and scared. I'm going to be landing in Seoul in two days and have about three hundred dollars to my name and a hotel for two days only. I'm going to be forced to sign whatever contract is offered to me as soon as I get there.
Black list this school. Don't even give them the time of day. I've never wished for an entire business to just vanish and it's owners become homeless scum of the street, but I wish for all that and so much more for this terrible excuse for a place of education.
SLP Ilsan is a horrible place. Suzy, the woman who runs it, is an awful person that should not be trusted.

Actually, avoid working for SLP in general.
Did you not research about SLP on here? Slave Labor Program? Many threads and horror stories about them.
Good luck on the jobs hunt though, hope it works out for you in the end. |

That's a shitty thing to do, but something that seems quite common over there (I heard there's a fair chance EPIK might send me home jobless should I decide to go through with my application).
Anyway, you should still be excited about Seoul. Get packing and have fun! |

pull yourself together man!
You are coming to Korea.
You have been here before
You just learned that you wont be working for a crapwon
It can be nerve-wracking, however that is the nature of adversity and uncertainty. It is possible to find a new job- just don't give up! Your next job may be much much better than the last! |

It's hard now because you're scared, but try to remember that you actually dodged a bullet.
Sorry you got caught in the Korean craphole. But you know the lay of the land, and that will count for alot when you're running around for your next job. Good luck, I hope you find one of the good schools. I work for Polyschool, and have been very happy there. |

Hey pooch! Haven't heard from you in a while. Sorry you're having a rough time of it.
Like the 3D fish said, you'll be all right. I know you're a sensitive lad, but you'll survive and be a better man for it. You're going to need a detailed map, Korean yellowpages, and a lot of CVs. Comfortable shoes won't hurt either.
Here is a search I whipped up for hostels in Seoul. Seems you have a lot to choose from. Using that map, you might be able to plan each day of leather-slapping around a hostel in that area of the city -- gotta stow your loot somewhere, eh?

Then there is also Western Union, for sympathetic relatives.
Treat it like a challenge! Good luck. |
