Based on the advertisements on the jobs board for Poly School, I believed their standard rates were:
Morning-Afternoon Shift 9-10 hours daily, 48 hours weekly, 10 40 minute classes = 2.8-3.2 million won
Evening Shift 8 hours daily, 40 hours weekly, 8 40 minute classes = 2.3-2.5 million won
Poly has always been my first choice, because it seems they have a more serious approach and a higher quality of student. A recruiting agency, Travel & Teach, sent me a morning-afternoon shift offer for 2.52 million won. The recruiter told me they work with three schools and this is the standard rate. This seems like the evening rate for the the morning's much greater workload. Am I missing something? Are the Poly school ads misleading? What are the actual starting salaries at Poly? |

I am going to be starting the afternoon shift. When I first interviewed I was told the starting salary was 2.3 million. However when I received my contract I was offered 2.5 million. According to the HR person I was told it was because of my prior teaching experience. I do not have full time teaching experience but I did teach while I was in college.
The difference in salary between the morning and evening shift I was told was approximately 20% because of the difference in hours. You get paid more in the morning because you work more hours.
My preference was to teach the younger kids but I do not want to work 11 hour days. I am going to make a decent salary and working a more reasonable schedule.
Also in the evening schedule I was told the first two hours are planning time so you do not start teaching until approximately 3pm.
I hope this information helps you. |

Yes, misleading because they calculate your severance and pension (which are required by law) into your salary offer. That is very misleading. They are trying to trick you into thinking that they are paying significantly more than other schools, when in fact they are not.
For the amount of hours and amount of work you have to take home it is not worth it. |

I read something similar before I accepted the position that KPS offered a base salary and then bonuses to give you a higher salary. However that situation in not my case. In my contract my salary is says my total salary will be 2.5 million won. I do not have a base salary with bonuses so my pension and severance pay will be less.
I am not sure how other contracts are written, but maybe KPS changed their contract recently. |
