Hey there

I wasn't born in the US. I moved here when I was 3 and English is my first language. I don't have any sort of accent at all.

So I went onto the Korean foreign affairs website to get more information about the E-2 visa and this part is worrying me:

Eligibility
Quote:
- Qualification: Natives of the country whose mother language is the one they are teaching. In addition, they must have acquired a bachelor's degree or higher from that country.

Am I going to get disqualified because I wasn't born here, but am going to teach English? The recruiter knows that I wasn't born here (it was on the app) and she asked me when I immigrated to the US but she didn't say it would be a problem.

Anyone else immigrate and get visas?

Thanks!

Do you have an American passport? It shouldn't be a problem. I've had co-workers who were born in Mexico and moved to the states at a young age. Never had a problem coming over here.

What is on the cover of your passport? That is the key.

I know several people who were not born in the United States but are Americans working in S. Korea.

Your fine overall!

Thru you might deal with a stupid immigration officer in the future who will look at your passport and see born in WHEREVER and not the US. Then start making assumptions and new rules for you. Still slim chance at that!

Unless they changed the policy, the last thing I read on the subject stated that you qualify if you were educated in that country beginning in the 7th grade.

If you are of Korean heritage, you would get a different visa. Probably an F-series visa. It gives you more rights.
