Hey guys,

My girlfriend and I are looking to go to one of these destinations this weekend. We live in Busan, so commute wise they are all on par.

Have you ever been to any of these islands, or heard any info on them? Would be greatful for any advice.

Thanks

i've been to geoje-do and tongyeong.

geojedo is nice, but i went when it was colder and there wasn't too much to do. there is a p.o.w. camp/museum and a few other minor attractions. the reason for the trip was actually to go to oedo (uedo), but the ferry was cancelled due to bad weather. i liked tongyeong more. it's apparently the 'venice of korea,' which is a major stretch. despite that, it's actually a really nice little ocean town and i'm sure it would be great in warm weather.

there are a few more interesting things to do. there is a decent hike you can make that gives you pretty nice views of the city and ocean. if you don't feel like hiking there's a gondola you can take for about 8,000 won i think. there's also another area that had a lot of street art and whatnot. i forget the name right now, hopefully another poster can fill in.

i'm not sure what the story is behind the place, but what i assume is that this area is made up of older housing in a prime real estate spot. the government is trying to force them out and to raise awareness about this, all of the residents allowed their homes to be turned into canvases. again, i have absolutely no idea if this is true haha, but that's the vibe i got while walking through there. either way it was really cool. the art may not be the coolest, but it was definitely an interesting neighbourhood to wander through.

if you're staying over night you should go early to geoje-do and buy ferry tickets for oedo. wander around geoje-do during the day and head to oedo in the afternoon (you're only allowed on the island for like an hour or so). then head of to tongyeong the next day (there's a bus that takes less than an hour if i'm not mistaken).

haven't been to bijin-do.

your mate from the banana group on the 7up competition is coming to Geoje to visit us this weekend. we went to college with her.

The sligo mate that is.

I would recommend geoje over tongyeong. I think it's much nicer if you just want to relax for the weekend and you could take buses around the island for 1000won.

Tongyeong is very nice too, but the better parts are those on the outter areas of the city itself, especially some of the islands surrounding the area.

as for oedo....you can't stay there, just a ferry to the island, hang around for a short while and then ferry back to jangseung po.
If you have any specific questions on geoje, just ask.

Cheers guys,

Hey, The Ireland, thats correct. The "Sligo one" is visiting you! Show her a good time!!
we just wanna get outta Busan for the weekend, and another Banana friend of ours has been to Binjindo island and he swears by it. So after all my info searching, that looks our most likely info! But we will defo be going to Geoje at some stage (with the "Sligo one") and will hook you up for more info.

Thanks for the info...

I've been to all four SEVERAL times over the years.

Bijindo is best in the summer, when it's hot and you swim and camp and spend two days in all. It is supposed to rain this weekend so wait on Bijindo. The water is VERY warm from July to September there and, in fact warmer in October than May.

Uedo ("way-doe") is best in the spring or fall, as there's absolutely no beach and really is only a two or three hour trip from Geoje, so it only makes sense to do Geoje and Oedo together.

Tongyeong is either a day trip to eat seafood and walk along the marina and see the turtle ship in the bay and climb the park on the hill, or else it's a pit stop for cycling/riding/driving from there west and southwest along scenic coastal roads.
