Roughly how much does internet cost per month?
Whate are the good ISP's?
Korea is renoun for having amazingly fast inteent, what kind of speeds can I expect and does this apply outside seoul (cheong ju for example)?
Do you also have to pay for a phone line rental to have internet (like in the UK)?
Do you have to get a 12 month contract?
cheers for any help given |

costs depend on bandwidth.
Cable is about 15k per month.(10mbps)
mid range broadband is 30k (50mbps)
high speed (100Mbps or better) just under 40k.
You do NOT need phone service to have internet service,
Cable and mid-range (flavors of DSL (vdsl, adsl, etc) broadband is available everywhere.

You can get month to month - there is usually a 3k won premium added the price for it and you won't get free install. |

If you're living in an apartment building, then the building will most likely have a network plug on the wall and the building will have a large router somewhere. I don't think that there are many different internet providers here. I think that for home internet, there are only a few big companies. I think they are all the same companies that also provide other forms of communications (cell phone, fixed phone, cable, etc.)
From what my friends have told me, it's becoming uncommon now to have a fixed phone (traditional land line phone). Maybe they are still used more in smaller cities, but not in the Seoul area. Here, everyone seems to be using internet phones (VOIP). They look like a regular wireless house phone but instead of plugging them into the phone line, you plug them into a router (hub, LAN, etc) and they use your internet connection. They are cheap and you can send text messages with them. So, in a way here it's the opposite to what you're used to. Here you would probably need the internet first before you get a house phone. |
