I like my steak medium rare. Apparently, in Korea that means rare, blue, medium, or well-done.

Any place know how to do it? It's much easier than launching a rocket into space.

Whatever, Fella/Sis, what one needs to do is take the train to good ol' I'taewon. There, you'll find a pub or 3.

There, in the I'taewon, grab a brew, take a long look at the menu, and then, by God, ask yerself: "Well, Me, I'm here. What's the thing?"

Honestly, that's the thing that, you know, goes through me head when I visit an area like that with sort of decent munchies.

I went to Mokdong Outback last night and ordered their Victoria Fliet "their most tender steak" which is also the most expensive at 29,500.

It was NOT filet. The small filets I buy at Costco (six pack for 47500) are filets. What I ate last night would probably qualify as sirloin. It was a major letdown. Tough, sinewy, typical middle-of-the-road steak. When I order the most expensive steak should I not get something that melts in my mouth?

They did cook it properly and the veggies that came with were great. The cheesecake with raspberry coulis is fantastic too.

I believe they are passing off regular sirlion as "filet" because most Korean consumers don't know the difference. Shameful.

They tend to burn them in Korea because that's the way they like them.
Just order any unmarinated meat dish in a Korean restaurant where you cook it yourself.

That's expensive? Cheapest steak at a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse or Morton's is like $60.

The steak was the most expensive item on the menu.

I didn't say I thought it was too expensive. I would pay more for a good steak, of course.

I was commenting on their misleading use of the term"filet".

I've had "filet" come out like that. Actually, I believe the round cuts of the Filet that we normally associate with a Filet come from the lower end of the Tenderloin.

You probably DID have a tenderloin. Just not the succulent, melt in your mouth cut that you pay $100 for.

I just ate at the Top Cloud Restaurant (http://www.topcloud.co.kr/) in Seoul on Wednesday. I consider myself to be quite the food connoisseur after living in New York and Las Vegas and this definitely ranks near the top of my list. The restaurant is located on the 33rd floor of the Jongno Tower and offers amazing views of Seoul.

But hey this topic isn't asking about the view...you want some grilled meat. Hands down one of the best steaks I have had in a long time. My girlfriend had the filet (about 55,000won) and I opted for the surf and turf (petite filet and whole lobster for 90,000won). This isn't your everyday spot for dinner, but if you are celebrating a special occasion or just want to treat yourself to great food with amazing service (no buzzers on the table here) Top Cloud is my number one suggestion.

For those of you who don't want to drop that much on dinner, they also turn the front half of the restaurant into a bar after 7pm (I think). Drinks are about 10,000won for cocktails, but you can enjoy the same views and the live jazz trio.

Outback only ever carry the most common steaks. I try to order prime rib. mmmmm, whenever I go and they are always out. This could be at 6pm and they are out. Pick a day of the week, and they are out. I think that since Koreans don't order them because they don't know anything but NY strip, siroloin, and T-bone, they just decide not to order the other cuts. Pisses me of every time.

Go to Costco. I only buy my steaks there. I think they only sell Australian beef because, you know, America poisons all of the beef they send to Korea Rolling Eyes But the steak is really tender, not frozen!! It is really thick and you get quite a bit for around 25,000-35,000. We usually spend around 25,000 and that is enough for dinner and lunch the next day for 2 people. You have to cook it yourself but hey, then you have no one to blame but you ^^

I have tried going to butcher shops and I tell them, in Korean, that I want my steaks to be 2cm thick. They even get their little measuring tool and confirm. Then they cut 2 or 3 steaks to equal 2cm..... I gave up. They freeze the meat anyway so it isn't tender at all.

A good steak substitute: Kalbisal 갈비살. You can get it seasoned or not. You cook it so you can decide when it is done. Mmmmmm, super yummy.

Forget Outback.

Last night I went to a place called Carne De Brasil in Kangnam.

25k gets you a 3 steak course with sides, and then...whichever of the 3 different steaks you liked best, you can get as much of it as you want.

The restaurant itself is beautiful. Nice artwork on the walls, not too bright, good music and the service was good. Oh, and they also have the 'stamp card' thing, which I plan on filling up.

My favorite food is steak, so I like to think I have a taste for a good steak, and that place definitely knows how to cook a steak.

There's more USDA meats there now.

http://wiki.galbijim.com/Brasilia <--directions to all 3 locations

I went to the one in Kangnamgu a couple of years ago. I wasn't impressed. It is a good price for the amount you get, I would starve myself all day. The steaks were thin and small, probably to cut down on waste since it is all-you-can-eat. I prefer making my own but this is a good alternative ^^

The problem for me could have been the sauce, I am an A1 only kind of girl. If it isn't A1, it doesn't belong on my steak.

I would try Brasilia at least once. It is better than any other steak restaurant I've had here.
