I might be taking a job here. Does anyone have any information on it. I know that it is close to the commercial district. What about other expats? Things to do during the day? things to do at night? Your general experience with this neighborhood or what you hear about it?

So far I know you need to take a bus to get to the subway line. It seems close enough to downtown on the map that walking/riding a bike might not be a bad option either.

Any bit helps, Thanks!

It all depends where you are on the island. After one night boozing I had no money and the buses had stopped. Took me 2 hours to get home walking from Nampo-dong. For others it may have taken 15 minutes.

There are bars and lots of restaurants there. There are also foreigners. If you're at a hogwon you'll probably be working with some, if you're with EPIK they may hook you up with some.

Nampo is a good place, and if you want to go to Seomyeon it's only another 15 minutes by subway.

Do you or did you work there oskinny1?

If I accept, I am going to be the only westerner at this school. I am worried about not meeting anyone and not knowing the first thing about anything in the surrounding area.

Never worked there, sorry. Don't worry about not knowing anything when you get there. This can be your great adventure!

Seriously, other than not knowing people you will be fine. If you get really desperate find out where some of the bigger chain hogwons are and pop your head in and meet a couple people.

All buses lead to Nampo-dong, so you are set that way. There is a grocery store in the bottom of Lotte that sells some foreign food if you really need it. If you get really hungry there is Dominoes delivery (just learn your address). For easy Korean go to a kimbob place. Ask your boss to give you a short tour.

I currently work in Yeung-do. You will likely have to take 1 bus from wherever you live to Nampo-dong station...a great area for shopping.

The nightlife on Yeung-do isn't that great. There's the usual really small Korean bars but you won't see many people around. But that's the same for most neighbourhoods in Busan. Generally people who want a really great time out will head to Kyungsung, PNU, Seomyeon, etc.

The scenary is beautiful and it's pretty cheap. There is a lot of hiking and mountains to climb.

There are not a lot of other expats here. It does kind of suck working as the only foreigner at your school...it's been much harder to meet people around here than it was for me in my previous jobs in Haeundae and Seoul. It's not impossible to meet people though. It just means you won't have friends at work (who aren't Korean).
