| Let's say someone from the US is applying to teach at a public school in South Korea. Under HIPAA, it seems that employers, at least in the states, cannot access your medical records under most circumstances. Does anyone know if Korean employers or the Korean government can still access your medical history? |

In general, privacy laws are not well respected in Korea so I would guess they could access your Korean records. Your US records, I highly doubt it.
They could ask for such records and you could give them your hat and tell them to *beep* it. |

I doubt it...and why would they want to? If they could access our records they wouldn't always be complaining about how hard it is to accurately screen foreigners.
Let me guess....you've heard that if you mention on the health form that if you've been treated for mental illness in the past you'll get your visa rejected...sooo you want to lie on your visa health form about it....you're worried though that your Korean employer will gain access to your medical records and see that you're on/were on medication for mental illness.
Just taking a guess. |

Your US records are not accessible.
Like credit or medical reports.
But anything in Korea will be fair game. Not confidential. |

You're not really this stupid, are you?
"Hi, I'm Tony, from Korea. Can you fax me the medical records of your patient so-and-so? Yea, this guy is applying for a Hagwon job. You're faxing it over now? That's great. Thanks so much." |
