Vacation time-End of July to beginning of August. So 2-3 weeks.
Will all of Thailand be unsafe at that time? Or just Bangkok? Is
anyone else going to Thailand regardless?
Any other suggestions? I want to go to a nice beach, drink, and chase women. I'm not limited to Thailand.
Don't really care about seeing too many cultural stuff. Just want to relax
on a beach. Thanks. |

Bali, Indonesia or Palawan, Philippines both seem like good alternatives. |

That's an awful time to visit Thailand anyways, regardless of the impending civil war..... rainy as all hell.
End of July, beginning of August = Malaysia/Indonesia time however.
Bali would be perfect as its cheap and beautiful - plus there would be tons of other backpackers there at that time.
Malaysia - Tioman and Perhentian would be perfect as well, though awfully crowded. Malaysia is also a good deal more expensive than Indo as well. Good luck! |

Philippines would also be a big "no" in August. If you want to relax, chase girls, and get drunk a bit - Bali is second to none (including Thailand). Rooms ON Kuta beach start at about $5 for something decent, and a meal of Nasi Goreng is only a dollar or two. Plus, in August Bali is the mecca of hot young backpacker girls - think Ko Phangnan x10. |

Bali flights are so expensive. 1,100,100 to go from Incheon. I was hoping to get a deal such as 600,000 for 2nd week of August. I only have 9 days so I don't wanna spend thousands of dollars on the flight alone. More like $1000 for the entire trip 9 day/8 night trip. Might go to Thailand next Winter providing peace and tourism are restored. |

How's Boracay these days? Any other mediterrean places? Is Greece going to be cheap now because of the financial crisis or expensive? |

The way to get to Bali is not to plug in ICN ---> DPS on a site like expedia, etc.
Look at flights from ICN ----> KUL on orbitz, expedia etc... and then flights from KUL ----> DPS on airasia.com.
I just did it for 2 weeks roundtrip for a total of $760. Believe me - between going to Thailand/Philippines in the rain (and "off season") and going to Kuta in the height of tourist season - its worth an extra $150-$200. Bali is cheaper than both of those places as well. In 1 month there last summer I spent maybe $300 (after plane of course).
Boracay is the same as it ever was. Still pretty fun and gorgeous - but the least interesting beach in the Philippines. |

Good idea. Going to KUL is cheaper than BKK on it. Probably can do it from other places like Manila and maybe Vietnam. One of those $1100 tickets from Incheon involves long lay overs in KUL or some place in China which I haven't found a direct flight in my searches. |

My wife went to Phuket about 3 weeks ago. It was safe, but Bangkok is not safe. Better safe than sorry. Avoid it.
I checked way in advance just for curiosity. Next year in March, a flight to Bali on Malaysian Air is 370,000 plus tax. Don't fly that ripoff Korean Air. |

great info everyone, thanks.
I guess I'll start researching Bali. I've heard so many good things about Thailand tho. My friends went last year in august and they said it wasn't that bad... quite the opposite! |
