|
|
Hello,
I just got to Korea about 4 days ago. I don't speak Korean. I'm trying to learn, but in the meantime, I don't want to starve. Can someone provide some Korean food names I can easily order in that is both 1) common (so they have it), and 2) tastes good That would be helpful, thanks! |

Bundaegi and Boshingtang are both favorites of mine!
Or get samgyupsal 삼겹살, look for a pig on a sign. They should have it. You'll need to order 3-4 portions so go with a friend.
"Samgyupsal chusaeyo" then hold up 3 or four fingers and smile!
Get some beer as well. "mekju han(one) bi-on chusaeyo"
If you want another it's "mekju han bi-on do chusaeyo"
For something really easy go to a kimbab (김밥) restaurant. They are everywhere and have a picture of a happy waving kimbab on the sign. Kimbab chom chi (tuna kimbab) is my favorite. |

Thanks, Blackjack. Now I know where to get the good gimbap.
Gimbap. It sounds like, "Geem bop."
Bibimbap. It sounds like, "Beepeem bop."
Gimchi Jigae. It sounds like, "Jee gay."
Boendeggi. It sounds like, "Bone Deggee."
Say, "hana," for 1.
"Du," for 2.
"Set," for 3.
They also have il, eel, sam, for the numbers. I'm still not clear which number set to use but both seem to work if said right. They seem know the English phrase, "take away," in this country for, "get it to go." Many borrowed English words are here and many many more reveal themselves when you read the Hangul writing.
For some classic fun culture shock I would recommend the Boendeggi.
I know more foods, but you really need to be with at least one other person. These are sit down restaurants serving foods like gamjatang, samgyeopsal, and dak galbi. You can go to those plain little simple restaurants by yourself serving gimbap, bibimbap, and jigae. The gimbap looks like sushi roll. |
