I have a friend who is in possession of a motorcycle. The owner of said bike has left the country and is unreachable. I would like to buy this motorcycle and have it registered in my name. We have all the papers associated with it and the license plate from the original owner.
To my question,
Is it possible to have the motorcycle registered in my name even if the original owner is no longer in Korea?
Thanks in advance |

Unlikely. When I sold my scooter I didn't want to have to go with the buyer to the gu office. So, I had to go to my gu office (actually, city hall because I lived outside of Seoul where there were no gu's) and have my name stamp officially registered with the government. I then also had to get a government document that proved I am who I am. I had to unregister my scooter and surrender my plates. After all that I could sell the bike. Both I and the new owner had to fill in portions of the transfer papers, and then sign. And, I had to give him the document from the gu office. He could then go to his gu office and re-register the bike under his name.
There are others on this forum more experienced in the motorcycle area, and hopefully they will chime in if there's a better way. |
