Can anyone give and tips, advice or secrets for living in this area. where are the hangouts, what about night life? what is the good places to eat, what outdoor stuff is there, Is it bike friendly?
So far all I have heard is that its in a nicer, more affluent part of town. |

I lived in Suseong-gu, 2002-03 (Jisan-dong, specifically). There was grocery shopping at Dong-A, a mountain to hike up, but not much going on at night. You're putting your life in other people's hands by cycling anywhere in a Korean city. |

Is there a main downtown area. Or is the city spread into its own zones? What are some of the good areas for hiking, or other parks? |

The main downtown area stretches from Banwoldong station until Jungangno station. Banwoldong can be reached by both subway lines.
SuseongGu is a pretty big area. There's a lot of good restaurants near Suseong Mot (lake), but there isn't really a busy bar area comparable to downtown. There are areas in every neigbourhood to go grab a drink, but they are typically Korean style hofs. They can still be fun, but they are different from bars you would find in the west. SuseongGu is also somewhat near Keimyung University, which is not a terrible place to head at night. They mostly have Korean style hofs as well, but there are some western style bars. Again, definitely not as busy as downtown, but it is a nice change of pace from that scene.
If you like clubbing, your only option is downtown. Daegu doesn't have the greatest clubs, but there are a few options.
Not comparable to a city of its size in the west and certainly not comparable to Seoul, but there should be enough diversity to keep you sane for sometime. |

My mother in law lives there.
I can't say there's too much in the area. It is a little richer neighbourhood so you should have no problem getting illegal privates.
Other than that head downtown when you drink. |

It's a huge area. If you know the name of the 'Dong' you will be living in, that would be more appropriate to ask about. |

It does depend where you live in Suseong-gu, as one poster noted.
I live by Sawol Station, which is the last stop on the green line, and there's a sports bar called Hey Man!! there. It has Hoegarden on tap; KW 5,000 pints and KW 25,000 pitchers. Also, the owner is a kyopo from Michigan and he's always there.
Sinmae Station has many bars and restaurants. |
