I keep hearing that you can get cheap flights to NZ but everything I see is $2k ONE WAY. Somebody please tell me the secret.

The secret is leave before June 19th after then everything goes up in price and also to buy your tickets a month or 2 ago. But both of those won't work for you so I'd try Cathay Pacific online site, they fly to Auckland. I have used them for my last 3 or 4 flights and found them to be one of the cheaper flights. Buying now I would expect to pay 1.3 mill return (if you are lucky) or up to 1.7mill if not so lucky.
