I looked into it, and it would have been prohibitively expensive.

Alcohol is considered a "hazardous" substance. There is a very good chance your bottle of alcohol will be seized at customs.

And yes, they will know because the Xray machine they have are VERY good.

Yes, I've had three bottles of moderately upper-range scotch sent on three different occasions from the states. For all three, the customs label was marked "maple syrup". Thanks dad!

between 2003-2007 my father sent me several care packages with two litre bottles of homemade hooch, moonshine, triple distilled white lightning from the neighbourhood apricots, pears and the cherry trees in the yard. He simply put the clear "rocket fuel" in 7-up plastic 2L bottles and wrapped them up in clothes and/or newspapers

hell he sent me sausages from the local deli and cheese, sometimes showing up all moldy, sometimes edible

never had a problem getting any package

Tack on shipping from the US, and keep in mind, they don't do overland freight.

Haha! That's a good one! Did you hear the one about the priest and the rabbi?

My Grandmother of all people sends me a package once a month with various stuff but she always sends me a pint of really cheap whiskey. When I first got here that the selection were slim in regards to booze, ever since she sends me at least a pint a month. Last month I think she sent me a whiskey called Black Velvet, by the looks and smell of it I would guess it was about $3 a bottle.

Some have been glass and some have been plastic bottles but I have never had a problem with customs or the post office messing with it. She also does not label on the package the booze, she lists everything else but that. She has even sent one of those bigger sized padded mailer things with beef jerky, playing cards, and then the pint so it would be impossible for customs not to see it and they have always gone through.

In case your wondering I did drink the Black Velvet and it was pretty bad but I still said thanks to my Grandma!

Anyone ever try Agwa de Bolivia made with coca leaves?

Apparently, "The "AGWABUZZ" is slightly different to the effect of other alcohol. The effect is maximized when the various coca leaf alkaloids are activated with lime to mimic the "oxygen buzz" experienced when chewing coca leaves or drinking coca-leaf tea at high altitude in the Andes; it tunes you in."

What a crock of sh!t.

I've had upwards of 10 bottles of whisky sent from home (Scotland) to here over the years and there's never been a problem...

Except once. Usually, it's 700ml bottles and I've never had any trouble (even if the package is marked "Whisky") but one time, my parents sent me a 1 litre bottle and it disappeared without any word at all. Post office never said anything and nobody seems to know what happened to it. It's either been confiscated for being over the import limit (which I think is 1 700ml bottle, but I'm not sure) or perhaps someone just saw a nice gift for themself and nicked it.

Anyway, I'd say that you should have no problem getting normal bottles of liquor sent but be prepared for the possibility of one disappearing. If you want to keep it safe, better get it couriered or signed for.

From Canada the shipping charges are astronomical, even if the booze is placed in a plastic bottle (which, if you need it that badly and you can't find it here, I would suggest AA).

I just waited till I got home and wrapped what hooch I wanted up in bubble wrap and threw them in the suitcase.

In my case, there's no finding Ouzo in Korea.

I doubt you'd have a problem getting spirits in, I got rubbing alcohol, actual maple syrup (broke from poor packaging), and other things which raised no eyebrows- until I ordered a box of condoms. Rolling Eyes

You know you can get 70% ethanol for 1000W from any pharmacy, right? It's not the 10% isopropynol you're used to, but it does the same thing. You can cut it with water down to 14% or whatever they sell in the stores if you must.

Many years ago when liguor stores were few and far between here I had large bottles of vodka, two at a time, shipped to me with no problems.
