Is everyone hungover from the Kor v. Arg match?
I thought it was a pretty poor showing by South Korea on every possible front. The Argentinians looked like someone was playing a live action version of a soccer video game because they were setting up such perfect combos.
What the hell was up with Korea's coach not changing the strategy...at all.
I mean, turtling up for the first half is acceptable, but when the result of that is 2-1, you'd figure that they'd go all out. What the hell were they thinking? That they'd defend and get one more goal, and tie? Against Argentina and Maradona? What?
The Korean players were never where they needed to be to the point where it was embarrassing. Everytime one Korean players got down the field there was no one there to back him up. I couldn't count how many balls were kicked from like 50 meters away. |

I think thats a bit harsh.
I was disappointed too but Korea did try to compete (it was nothing like Spain vs Switzerland), and the scoreline was a little flattering on Argentina (no team in the world would have stopped Argentina's 4th). The key moment was Yeom's miss, if that had gone in it would have made it a lot tighter.
They just had too much for them. If a team like Korea goes "all out" against Argentina, probably the 2nd best attacking team in the world, it becomes 7-1 very quickly. Its all about patience, caution and taking your (limited) chances. "Defend, get one more goal and tie" is a sensible strategy in such a situation. The problem was the early goal, their strategy revolved around frustrating Argentina for as long as possible to drain their confidence and patience, but as soon as they scored a demoralised Korea knew they had to try and come out, which makes you vulnerable.
They should have played to their strength (superior fitness) a little more by pressing them throughout the game, but when you've got players with a turn of pace like Messi or Di Maria, its only a matter of time before one breaks through.
If you compare the squads its amazing Korea even gave them a game. The only Korean player with an outside chance of making the Argentina squad is Ji-Sung. Argentina have two strikers on the bench who would walk into any team in the world,
on the bench.
Anyway, it was a good warm-up for a likely match against Mexico or Uruguay in the next round. They could have done a little better, but it wasn't a disaster. |

| I think they should have defended more when they got it to 2-1. They should have been trying to keep the loss minimal. Goal difference could play a huge role in qualification. |

Argentina was amazing.
If Korea loses against Nigeria it's gonna be some tight math (assuming Greece loses against Argentina of course). |

| Argentina taught Korea a comprehensive footballing lesson. That's how the big boys do it. |

| I was impressed with Korea's attempted attack in the second half. If only they could have more skilled players to navigate the box and finish. Maybe in 20 years time Korea will become a solid middle level team, that can often give the likes of Argentina and Brazil a lot of trouble. |

| Everytime I see Korea attempt a goal, they just seem to shoot the ball straight to the goalie. (and without much punch, at that). |

I never understand why people say things like this. Of course the game would turn out differently if people scored goals. There were plenty of missed shots that could have gone in if they were hit better. That is how the game works. |

If people didn't say things like this, poor Alan Hansen and Jimmy Hill would be laying tarmac around Tesco for a living instead of giving us an hour of scintillating analysis week in week out.
Hang on...
bugger. |

Maradona had some 115 pro players from which to choose. I agree about statement above that Argentina had pro strikers just sitting on the bench.
Korea did really well even in the second half, but, Man, the last quarter of the game was sooo sad. 2-1 would have been excellent. 4-1 is depressing.
Also agree Korean coach should have made some changes but I think it would have been good to bring the wings more forward to support the goal attempts - Always leaving it to self-scorer Chu and then Park when he runs in, is a bit reliant on the one scheme.
What about Chadu Lee, was he out for that game? |

Yes but if that happens, South Korea will be out on goal difference. I think a draw against Nigeria and they'll be fine, as I can't see the Greeks getting a result against Argentina. |

| Not so crazy now, is he? He plonked 6 strikers in the set up, and it worked pretty well it seems |

I think most people just accept that Argentina is the superior team.
Now on to the next match vs. Nigeria. |

I believe his name is Cha DuRi (perhaps Romanized differently, but Cha is his family name). |
