Quote:
According to police, at 12:05am on the 12th, after drinking together at a bar in Anyang-1-dong in Manan-gu, the students took drunken 24 year-old American C, an English hagwon native speaking teacher, to a motel where they repeatedly sexually assaulted her and stole money and valuables such as her phone worth 800,000 won.

Korea on a whole is safe compared to our countries. but we are dealing with a country with 50 million people. 25 million in the greater seoul area!
crime happens here, just like anywhere. be safe out there people.

problem is Korean governments don't like the press reporting all the crimes so they keep a lid on most of it. not like our countries where all crime is reported. Korea wants to be seen as a safe perfect country in the world media. 1600 murders a year here people...

What does having 1600 murders a year prove? America has 15,000 per year.

How do you think the government keeps a lid on the news? The press here is free (some might say too free).

1600 mur/yr in Korea with a population of 49 million, 15000 mur/yr in the USA with a population of 309 million.

1 murder per 30,625 people in Korea, 1 murder per 20,600 people in the US, meaning you're about 1.5x more likely to be murdered in the US. Don't think he was saying either is great, but one is clearly better than the other.

Not to sound bad but if things are as the articles "State" (keep in mind could be full of holes!) then i blame the woman and her friends as well. If she is drinking, everyone knows that drinking alone is bad for anyone and then to have complete strangers come up and start drinking with you is a red flag to be cautious.

Her friends also left her alone. I dont care what country it is, you make sure a female gets home safe and sound. And she decide to get drunk with strangers? red flag again.

Are they innocent? he!! no, of course i believe in eye for an eye, but that kind of justice is similar to that of revenge movies lol

"It's become known that after they arrived at the motel, they decided what order they would go in and sexually assaulted her."

I've heard this is common in these "let's rape the drunk girl" cases. I wonder if they played rock paper scissors.

Sadly, this becomes quite common for K women too. It happens more than you think. Many K women feel a sense of smae and don't report it. In some ways, K men can be quite more aggressive than us western folk.

Poor girl. She must be traumatized. Hope she gets some help and these A holes do time.

Drinking alone = not good.

Still feel sorry for her though.
