Do you need a simple plug adapter (appliance is rated 110-240VAC)
or a power converter (appliance is rated 110-125 VAC).

If a plug adapter then then any chun-won store, stationary store or the electrical section of your favorite department store (kims club, e-mart, home-plus, lotte-mart, etc) - in the area where they have light bulbs and extension cords. 300-3000 won depending on style.

If you need a converter/transformer (240 down to 110 volts) then you will need to ask [a Korean co-worker] for help since they are getting harder to find and most department stores no longer carry them as a stock item.

If it is for your laptop, you should be able to find the power cord (wall to brick) in the computer section of any department store (5000 won or less). They are all the same (laptop/desktop/monitor/printer).

we found a converter at homeplus, it's a white box slightly smaller then a shoebox, cost about 40,000 won, and we found it in the aisle with the plugs and power strips. this was back in january, but i'm sure their stock hasn't changed THAT much since then... HI-1000 is what it's called. it has two american style plugs, we use it to charge my husband's nikon camera battery, to plug in the wii, and to charge the computers.

Check out the item you are trying to plug in. If on the adaptor thing it says 110-220 then you are gtg with just an adaptor, if it doesn't say anything like that then go for the box transformer thing.

Go to a hardware store, ask for a "down trans". It will cost less than 20k most times

thanks for the advice.
the plug says for input 'AC 100-240,50/60Hz. 0.6A' and it's for my external harddrive. i've read everywhere that it's okay to plug it in, but when I do (with just the plug adapter) it makes this high pitched whinny noise. I'm afraid to put the other end into my hard drive in case it blows a fuse and i lose everything on them.

maybe i'll just buy the power converter just to be safe....
