As the title suggests, I've got a telephone interview with Footprints for a public school job in Korea. So do any of you guys have advice for this first timer to telephone interviews? I know I've got to do a lot of background reading etc. but were there any questions that caught you off guard?
Thanks!
Spark.

What background reading? They'll probably ask you something like: Have you been to Korea before? Do you like to travel? Do you like working with kids? Do you have all your documents ready? When can you start?
They won't ask you a single thing about methodology, theory, etc. And you may even notice from some questions that they didn't even bother to ready your resume.
Don't sweat it. |

These types of things end up being a test in obedience. They are trying to fill you in as soon as they can. If you say you can start next week, they won't consider you while there are teachers saying they can start now. Forget any schedule or routine you have now and work with them. |

They might even ask, "Are you comfortable with the idea of having more vegetables than meat in your diet?" |

I wouldn't sweat it. FP asks a lot of questions, but when it comes down to it they are just a recruiter looking to place bodies here. That's what they get paid for. |

I just had an interview last night. One of the questions was, "do you like kids?"
True, this was an interview for a hagwon, not a public school, but still...don't worry too much. |

Yes, they will try to give you situational questions... "How would you deal with an unresponsive student?" etc.
They try to portray themselves as more serious than other recruiters and such.
Have you signed their nifty little waiver, excusing them of anything that could go wrong? |

Lol, no I went through their interview process (with the head cheese) back in early 06; got accepted by them (woo-hoo) and they didn't listen to a thing that I said as far as preference (kept sending me $hit jobs). I came over here on my own and have never looked back. Recruiters are useless if you know how to run the game. |

Haha I got 'accepted' too. They also didn't pay any attention to my preferences. It seems that they didn't even try. They just had me on their list and sent me spam. All their 'specialists' who would send me different spam didn't seem to communicate with one another, either. |

Gotta wonder what their "specialists" experiences are ...Oh our founders taught in Korea for a couple of years, so we know about things there and the rest of the world even though we live in Vancouver, lmao |

If you want to know, I can tell you all about our experiences.
Also - we use behavioural interview questions about experiences with other cultures and in teaching roles, etc. - not so much situational. We moved away from that a few years back.
