Started another thread with a topic about notice, I think this question is different enough to warrant its own thread.

I'm switching companies ASAP, less than 6 months into my original contract. My new school was eager to get me a new visa, and took me into immi to apply for one before I had quit the other hagwon.

I didn't think that would work, but immi took my docs (degree and transcripts, no CRC) and started the process of applying for a new visa. The officer there had full knowledge of my situation (i.e. that I was still at another place and had no letter of release yet). Immi also said that all I have to do is hand in my ARC at the airport, pick up a new visa in Japan, and come back.

I just got the visa pickup number, and now have the following situation. My current school thinks they have some leverage over me, i.e. that I need a cancellation or letter of release from them. Is that the case, or does the info from immigration sound correct?

(I need this to do some negotiation on my way out in terms of what I get paid etc.)

If you have a valid visa confirmation number then you are good as gold.
Make your visa run and start your new job.

You old boss will certainly be surprised.
