I've been having tax issues. I wont go into too many details, but lets just say I have to figure out on my own how much I have to be paying (I'm a regular employee on an E2 visa).

I went to the tax office, and nobody seems to know how much I'm supposed to pay. A lot of what they were saying seemed to be "It depends". But it sounded like I might supposed to be taxed at 5% 10% 15% or something like that. They seemed to know about the 3.3%, which I had been charged at. They confirmed this is wrong, as it's for independent contractors.

I thought it was something in the neighborhood of 1.7%ish. I tried showing them the simplified tax withholding table and calculator online, but they were rather dismissive of it. They pretty much told me "It's more complicated than that."

Any idea where I should go? Anyone really know how much foreigners are supposed to pay. This is both for 2009 and 2010.

Thanks.
