Easily go through US$200-250 per day with those activities.
$100 for a basic hotel room ($150 for 3.5* or better), food at $20 per meal for sit-down restaurants + clubs and booze.
Yup... $250 per day.... 4 nights = $1000
the good news is that you can bring anything you have left over (if you manage to not spend it all) back with you.
Could you get by with less = yes, but not as comfortably.
Could you spend more = easily if you are not careful.

yea..Tokyo is a bit expensive check out this site for some good hostels http://www.statravel.com they have some pretty decent inexpensive places to stay in Tokyo. Night clubs etc usually charge about 3,000 Yen cover charge ~30$ US ...food can vary depending on what you want to eat and how much. Drinks figure anything from 400 Yen to 1,000 Yen per drink. 1,000 Yen being on the high side. As far as hotel loctations ..Tokyo in general is like seoul its huge.. you might want to stay out of shinjuku harajuku shibuya these places are really expensive. Ikebukuro is really close to everything and pretty cheap. |

Single rooms at Toyoko Inn run about 7000 yen a night and can be reserved online. If you're even more flexible, do an overnighter at a capsule hotel (4-5000) or an internet cafe (less than 2000). |

I concur on the 200 -250 a day.
Also, if you'll be drinking/eating out everyday, it's going to be on the high end, unless you get a very cheap hostel or capsule hotel.
Train travel adds up quickly, too, unless you just stay in one area of Tokyo.
Plus, unless you enjoy Itaewon and its plethora of expats in Seoul, I recommend avoinding Roppongi. The Japanese refer to it as the "American Slum", which is an apt description. If you want to experience Tokyo, the big entertainment districts in Shinjuku, Shibuya, and Ikebukuro are much better. |

Hmmm my friends are only going to go for two days and they told me flight = 500K KRW, and hotel at Hyatt is 500K per night. So 1,5 for two days wow.
I'll probably find another hotel than Hyatt though. So i figure i'll pay around 200K for hotel per night. |

Red_Devil where in Tokyo are you looking to stay? That really makes a difference in price ranges for Hotels.. the Hyatt... is little overboard if you are going there just for a couple of days..think of it this way how much time will you really be spending in your hotel room other than sleeping? I would keep as much money as possible for other things. A hostel would probably be a much better bet |

If you can speak and understand some Korean, or have a Korean friend who will accompany you, go to the Japanese tourism office and ask the staff to help you book reasonably priced rooms in Japan. The tourism office staff have access to guesthouses owned and operated by Korean expats living in Japan. Someone is helping me to book a room in a guesthouse for my trip to Tokyo later this year. Cost will be about 3,000-3,500 yen per night in Shinjuku. |

Does anyone want to go 'inter-railing' in Japan in mid August (14th-24th)?
Probably get the ferry from Busan to Fukuoka and then the train to Tokyo and maybe Osaka and Hiroshima on the way back (if there's enough time). |

I suggested to another foreign teacher a Japan trip might be a good experience as a break from Korea, but he asked if I needed my head examined. When I asked why, he said I would spend all my hard earned savings on what he described as a diactical waste of time as Korea offers a glimpse of Asia at a fraction the cost of Japan. LOL
Well, I want to do something more interesting than what I do on the weekends.
Might consider hostels if they have any beds available, but setting privacy and personal space on the back burner so that we can see just how fascinating Japan really is. If you can avoid high hotel costs and supplement your diet with snacks you bring, then you can shoestring it. |

The only people I've met who adore Korea are the very same people who have never been to Japan. |

Ikebukaro is rougher'n shit and not so central.
I'd say just find something in Shinjuku. Good access to the station and multiple lines and lots on the area in the way of bars, restaurants, etc.
Shinjuku the best location in the city to be based out of for exploring other areas of Tokyo and just shopping and enjoying restaurants and bars in the shinjuku station area. |

Oh, I think I disagree. Rough? It's Japan - The street crime is still low, and it's still quite clean. I can't imagine anyone being put off by Ikebukaro, unless they were maybe Japanese...and even then...
I also think it's equally central. It's also on the JR line as is Shinjuku, it's just that there aren't many big sights in Ikebukuro. I think the only real disadvantage to staying in Ikebukuro vs. Shinjuku is about a 5 minute extra train ride to see the sights around Shinjuku/Shibuya/Harajuku, and the rest of W. Tokyo. |

Are you all looking at staying in one room, or do you need separate ones?
I think some of the estimates are high. You can get a basic room for around $75 and a quite nice one for $100-125. I can't imagine spending $500 a night, though I know plenty of places are in that range.
I think a decent room would work better than a capsule or hostel, you'll want a comfortable place to rest when you're not club partying. |
