So, I have a C-3 visa, the tourist visa. I can get the F-4 visa, but only if I'm in Korea, which is not likely to happen unless I get a job first (free airfare and all). I don't have relatives with free time who can get the family registry for me in Korea... so yeah.

Has anyone in the same situation as me been hired before?

Not unless you meet the requirements for an E2 (assuming you want airfare and housing).

Where are you / what passport do you hold that you need a C3?

None of the English qualified countries need it, they get 90 days visa free, so you are equally as unlikely to get a job in advance of your arrival.

hmmm you have an actual C3?

Since Americans get an automatic 90 day entry on arrival now I am surprised that you actually paid for a 90 day visa and even more surprised that a consulate let you get it.

Unless you have all the other requirements for an E2 (BA, clean CBC, etc) it is virtually unlikely that anyone will front you a plane ticket.

Could you get a job (as a teacher) after you land and change to an F4 = probably (even if you are not qualified legally).

Since what year have Americans have been able to enter w/o a visa to Korea for 90s days?

I got my visa in 2005, and it's gonna expire soon.

Since Koreans were allowed to enter the US visa free (2008).

Guess you have been out of touch for a while.

Not really. I got my visa in 2005, and the visa isn't one-time entry, but expires after 5 years.
