Not long ago I was addicted to alcohol. I was drinking every day. Deep down inside I knew what I was doing was wrong, but I couldn't stop. Then I saw a video that changed my life.
http://www.ted.com/talks/matt_cutts_try_something_new_for_30_days.html
The part that really stuck with me is when the presenter said, "I've found you can do anything as long as it's for just 30 days."
Today is day 30 of my sobriety. Through this challenge I've learned I don't need alcohol. I hope I can cut way back and make this a permanent thing- a lifestyle change.
Tomorrow I will start another 30 day challenge (and then another and another).
I'm very addicted to Dave's so I'm going to say goodbye to the site for a month at least.
(I kind of wish I could be around to see augustine's profanity laced farewell post rant, but this is for the best for my life.)
Anyways, I just wanted to share this. I hope you can find some value in it.

After 30 days come back and let us know which one, alcohol or Daves, was easier to kick.

Good for you man. Keep away from the sauce, especially if you've had problems in the past controlling it.

yeah, good luck with your continued sobriety.

I will enjoy a 30 day respite from your posts regarding how hard it is to learn Korean .

If you spent half as much time actually studying Korean as you did talking on Daves about how difficult it is, you might actually be at a higher level.

Not saying it's easy , because I know it's not , but jeez, give it a rest.

So, yeah , as my Korean co-teacher would say, 'take a rest' for awhile & here's to hoping you use that time productively.

Good luck.

Well, if there's one thing that a stint in the military will teach you, it's that there's NOTHING you can't do for 2 months at a pop!

And biologically, not including the our basic needs, the things we say we "can't" go without, are the very things we NEED to go without.

I'm giving up the word jinja

I'm just back from the Philippines. I tried my best to be an alcoholic for 30 days, but failed. Three reasons: 1) only had 10 days vacation, 2) was metabolizing the beers as fast as I was drinking them, thus couldn't get super-drunk, 3) got bored of drinking after a few days. Sad

In AA and other 12 steps programs, they say, "Just for today".

For most of us, that is a good place to start.
Just for today, I won't allow myself any negative speech.
or
I will do as many kindnesses without anyone knowing (if I get caught, it doesn't count).
or
I will walk 3 kilometers.
etc.
Just for today, I will live just for today.
