This rainy Saturday has made me wish I had my Wii to kill a few hours in the ol' officetel. I do have my Canadian Wii here with me (because I had brought it originally to Taiwan where I taught first, and the voltage was the same as at home), but I know that I can't plug it in here in Korea because of the difference in voltage.

I got to thinking about it and I guess my question is: can I just buy a Korean Wii power adapter plug like this (http://images.oversources.com/productimage/_nintendo_wii_accessories_wii-cable-04-big.jpg), stick it into the back of my Canadian Wii and plug it in? Would this cause my Wii to explode or would my Canadian Wii just happily accept the change in voltage? Anyone ever try this?

you can get a step-down transformer from a tech store for about 15,000. http://www.voltage-converter-transformers.com/images/products-small/step-down-transformer-vod150gs.jpg
Though you may need to couple it with a universal plug adapter which can be found for less than 5,000 at tech stores.

The adapter in the picture you posted will work fine too. All Wiis run on the same voltage and current that comes out of the adapter, the only difference is that the adapters require different inputs depending on your region. (ie they all spit out 9V at .300 mA, [I don't know exact numbers] but need 110V 60Hz CAN/US or 220V 60Hz Korean, or 110V 50Hz Japan from the wall socket.)

My American Wii power supply has
INPUT AC: 120V 53W 60Hz
OUTPUT DC 12V 3.7A
Is the only difference between the Korean one and the American one the Voltage and the plugs?
I need a new one for my Wii, and thought maybe I could just get a Korean one (if I can find one).
I'd rather not fry my Wii though.

So, Underwaterbob, if I'm understanding you correctly then I can just go to Home Plus and pick up a $15 Korean Wii power cord, stick it into the back of my North American Wii and it will work OK?

I might actually be able to use my Wii again Smile

I did that with my Jap Wii and it worked perfectly fine. That is the best solution.

You can just buy a different Wii power adapter. I found one that was 110-240V.

Pretty easy to find at the Yongsan/Technomart places.
