Hi All!
I need to ask any Australian that are married to a Korean. I need to find out what is the best process to obtaining a Spouse/ Partner visa.
We are thinking about getting the marriage cert. done in Korea and start the application process for the VISA in Korea. We want to be back in Australia next May.
Questions:
1) Should we get our marriage cert. here in Korea or Australia?
2) Is the marriage cert. in Korea, legal in Australia?
3) How to start the process of getting a marriage cert. in Korea?
4) Should we get a immigration agent to help us submit the paperwork?
If anybody could help that would be great! |
ASK your embassy about the specifics for getting married in Korea and having it registered / recognized in Australia. (they should have a check list of things YOU need to do before you can marry here).
Typically, by international treaty, a marriage that is recognized by one national government is also recognized by all other national governments.
In regards to your questions about an "immigration agent" NO. You can do it yourself. It is not that hard but will take a "bit" of legwork BEFORE the deed is done (like any marriage anywhere on the planet) and a little bit of paperwork after the fact.
When you are ready to head back to Aus. on a more permanent basis, again, the visa section of YOUR embassy or immigration department will be the BEST source of current and accurate information.
Most "immigration agents" are nothing more than expensive middle men who usually slow down the process (by adding extra steps because they are in the middle and become a delay into themselves) and add NOTHING to the efficiency of getting the paperwork done.
