|
|
Just moved apartments and my speeds are unbelievably high relative to what I've been pulling down in my last apartment. I used to get speeds off MegaUpload from anywhere between 500kbps and 3mbps--I remember them being faster when I first moved in.
In my new apartment, I am getting constant, regular speeds of about 9mbps.
Does SK gradually throttle speeds of heavy, and I mean HEAVY, downloaders? Or is my new place just better wired?
I could definitely get used to these speeds |

and you're advising people to disable auto updates, firewalls and antivirus? |

| Christ, I'd love speeds like that for MU. I used to get about 5mb/s, but now I'm lucky to get over 200kb/s. I have a Megavideo paid membership, maybe they stopped giving preferential treatment to MV members or something, though I suspect MU is being throttled by my ISP (Guro C&M). As for your question, not sure sry. |

My speeds are heavily throttled (T-Broad).
I'm lucky to get 14-15kbps (thats fourteen to fifteen!!!!!) on MU and RS at peak time. 100-200kbps off peak.
It's paid through my company however so I can't switch providers. |

| I seriously doubt that the speeds are throttled as a general practice in Korea. Different dwellings all come with their own connection speed. When you move, its somewhat of a throw of the dice as to how your next place will be connected. Big apartments are generally faster than say, a villa, though that is no rule. |

That's MU and rs that are throttled unless you've paid for them.
Don't forget that anything outside korea has to share the outside pipe so it's going to be slower anyway.
There are speed tests and download sites you can use in Korea to test things if you need to. |

Gaber--yeah, I too am on a NegaUpload/MegaVideo premium membership (some of the best money I've ever spent!). Sucks to hear about the speeds.
Disco--WOW! I didn't know Internet in Korea was ever that slow. Are you sure you can't discuss it with your company? I mean, not like, "It takes so long to download stuff" but... you know.
Languistic--yeah, I'm suspecting it may be my new place. I was hoping BlackJack might respond here 'cause I know he downloads around the same amount of data as me.
I'll bump this thread in the future if my speeds take a fat hit. Haha. |

I get those speeds off private trackers and have done for the past year with no signs of throttling.
Over the past year I have had about 10tb of data off private sites and probably similar off public |

I used to peak at about 9mbps with Hanaro and that's about my peak now with MyLG.
It definitely helps when you're in a modern high-rise with a fibre-optic hub. As opposed to a crappy coax connection they always give you for a 'villa' hook-up.
As already said, all this great bandwidth doesn't amount to much if the services you use are based in servers outside Korea. |
