I'm on an E-2 visa, but want to take a trip to China. Lonely Planet (and let's face it, they're never wrong) says I can go to the immigration office, pay 50,000, and get my E-2 modified in some way to allow multiple entry. Is this true? |

Yes, you pay 50,000 won and can get a Multiple-Entry permit that is good for one year *or as long as your VISA lasts*.

Yes, the permit is not the same as a visa. Even if you renew a visa, you still need to get a new multientry permit every year. |

you can also apply for a stamp at the airport. otherwise you need to take your ARC and passport to the immigration office that you are registered at. |

Yet, the airport does not issue multi-entry permits, only single-entry. |

Thank you, that is good news. I can't wait to go to China and throw money on the street.
A bit of advice to the English teachers in this part of the world. If you're interested in saving money, obviously Korea is the place to be. But if you're not, if you like the nightlife and the partying and living lavishly, then you're in the wrong place. Go to China because you can party there longer, harder, faster, and better than in Korea.
Do you want a fat university job? 14 hours a week? Go to China.
After SARS the monthly income for foreign teachers has almost doubled. 3000 used to be standard, now you see quite a bit of ads posting 5000, 6000, even 7000. That's like making 5 million won, 6 million won, 7 million won a month in Korea. You almost couldn't even spend it all, that's how rich you are.
Of course, it's nothing when you convert to your home currency, but who cares? That's the price you pay for being able to do whatever you want, whenever you want. |
