I was fine with Win ME, buggy as it was. Now that I have the XP, it teases me; my MSN Explorer no longer works, my MSN Messenger, forget it, and the Windows update won't do its thing anymore. Should I trash the XP and go back to ME? Any serious geeks out there who can help with this? Thanx in advance.

I never used ME, I went straight from 98 to XP. Never had any real problems with it, and the programs you mentioned work fine for me. I don't think anyone will be able to help you without more details, but I would suggest that returning to ME isn't much of a solution.

Agree. XP is worlds better. I bet you just stuck in the XP cd and upgraded your ME... am I right? In order to do it properly, you really have to start fresh, wipe your computer, and install XP. Otherwise, you'll have a big mangled mess.

My XP was installed over 2 years ago, and it still runs perfectly without any slowdowns or problems or application failures.

Your update not working is the core of you problems. It doesn't work because you have an illegal copy of XP. Hack it and it'll work fine and your problems will be over.

Check and see on microsoft's main site. I had a similar problem when I had the Mydoom virus. It could be a virus.....but if it doesn't work then fdisk the drive and reinstall xp fresh. It always works when nothing else will.
Check microsoft.com first and see if you have the virus.

**** another note: if you have the hacked version the the update will never work unless you know how to use a key gen and make a new cd-key like i did. Make sure your cd ky doesn't start with a "F". Microsoft stopped allowing the keys to work with the update.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I know how to deal with this now. Frankly, I'm a computer idiot, but I'm on the gradual learning curve.
