I was standing outside Itaewon station waiting for a late friend and some Korean guy carrying a laptop with a webcam and a handheld microphone, fashioned like a TV show host's, set up on top of a mailbox or something and was having a "live broadcast" from Itaewon (my, how daring! at 5:30 PM, no less!) on ranchat (random Korean webcam chat). A few people were laughing at him and giving him funny looks. I was standing there a long time so finally he turns and asks in English, "Hi, excuse me. Can I talk to you?"
I declined. Not really interested in entertaining someone's chat audience. He then retreated to Starbucks.
Might become a new trend. |

I tend to avoid the Starbucks next to the KB bank in Itaewon for this reason.
Usually something like this happens:
I'm sitting at SBs, alone. I'm reading a book (may be good, may be not).
I'm half way through my tall cafe latte (no sugar).
Someone enters my peripheral vision. I see a Korean sitting at my table with a note book and a pink pencil with a little plastic animal dangling from it. They smile. "Can I ask you some question?" "What is you favorite....."
Sorry, I'm busy. No one interrupts a good latte. |
