Come across a crime story on the web? Dump them here.

Quote:
. . .visitors to South Africa from China, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Republic of Korea, Japan and Colombia have fallen victim to crimes.

Police said they have arrested a fourth suspect for robbing two Portuguese and one Spanish journalist in Magaliesburg, north-west of Johannesburg.

Beeld newspaper in Johannesburg reported on Thursday that a Korean television executive had been robbed of electronic equipment in central Johannesburg.

In another incident in late May, the Colombian football team had cash stolen from their rooms at the five-star Hyde Park Southern Sun Hotel in northern Johannesburg when they played a friendly match against South Africa. Two hotel employees were later charged with theft.

Hello Rolling Eyes . I was waiting for this, in fact I'm surprised there hasn't been a lot more so far.

This sort of crime is normal everyday ocurrence in S.A. I guess they've become numb to it. Hopefully there will be no murders/carjackings/stabbings along the way either. Such severities may be reserved only for south african whites i suppose.

I think if a tourist was killed during the WC, they'd probably have a manhunt for the guy and the suspect probably would have a painful death and have 1 "warning" shot to the back of the head. People probably have been warned, hence the reason these guys have been left relatively unharmed.

Well, this is it, you see, a special effort is being made that obscures normal state of affairs. Plus the jittery tourists' caution and beginner's luck.

The soccer tourists are going to come through unscathed and asking, 'what have these moaning minnies been on about all this time?'

Yes, robberies are a normal everyday occurrence in SA and absolutely nowhere else in the world.

Pretty strange, I saw on the BBC website that close to 200 000 people, black and white together, were out in the streets of Johannesburg to cheer on their soccer team the other day. It might shock you to hear that no one was stabbed or murdered and seemingly that which occurs every day in SA but nowhere else in the world, robbed.

200,000 fans on the street? For the first time the crims are outnumbered.

It looks like south africans are making a special effort to be on their best behaviour for the W.cup.

I kinda like it. It adds "gravity" to the match atmosphere.

Colombian police seize World Cup replicas made of cocaine

Posted: 2010/07/05
From: Mathaba

BOGOTA, July 4 (mathaba) -- Colombia Airports anti-drug agent said on Sunday that they found a World Cup trophy made of cocaine during a security check.

Airports anti-drug chief Jose Piedrahita said that Colombian authorities found the unusual statue during a routine security check by anti-drug agents Friday in a mail warehouse at Bogota's international airport.

The 36-centimeter-high statue was packed inside a box headed for Madrid, Spain. The statue was painted gold with green stripes on the base.

Piedrahita said Saturday that laboratory tests confirmed the cup was made of 11 kilos of cocaine mixed with acetone or gasoline to make it moldable.
