Here is a good video that gives some good context regarding the recent incident with the Cheonan and the relationship between North and South Korea. Also, don't miss the speaker's little slip-up at 6:15.

This is why I absolutely could never, ever side with "the left". Cummings is a person of dubious worth who put out the idea that SK had attacked NK first during the Korean war. Yeah, guys with rifles attacked t-34s. He also constantly rails against strategic bombing, as it kills so many civilians, but spends very little time on the "context". Especially the fact that NK and Chinese troops were traveling with the refugees. I don't believe these mistakes come from ignorance, but from an attempt on his part to discredit anything having to do with the west. He is calls himself a socialist, and I believe that he wishes NK had won. He keeps on calling for the context surounding this event to be explained by SK, but really then doesn't give the context for the previous events he describes. NK ships cross the line. SK ships challenge them, their is a fight, and people die. To Bruce Cummings defending yourself against lefties on the rampage is an unpardonable sin, but anyone who has a brain would realize, if armed wackos come into your territory, the best way to deal with it is massive amounts of firepower. |

How lovely it is to rail and rant against the West and the U.s. while protected by it's military power. Contemptable is too mild a word. |

Yes context!! I can remember when Chomsky put the killing in Cambodia "in context". In the 30's others put STalins murders in context. the soviet gassing of civilians in Afghanistan in the 80's was also placed in context. Nothing changes, killing for "the cause " is okay. I am sure that if the families of the dead sailors could place the event in cintest they would feel better. |
