Yep. Of "Easy Rider" fame ... and many others.
Sorry I don't have a link but I wanted to beat OTOH to the punch!

And you even threw an exclamation point into the title to capture a bit of emotional flavor. Well played, old man.
As for the deceased, I enjoyed his performances in many films, but there was often a little too much paint-by-numbers "rebelliousness" about the guy. I watched Cool Hand Luke for the first time a few years back, and was kind of annoyed at the way he was hopping around during the shower scenes. Sorta like the too-clever-by-half kid in drama-class who keeps everyone in stitches with his zany improvisations.
And like a lot of 60s types, he eventually slid into a banal hangover period. I recall one Oscars ceremony where he was introducing something or other, and he prefaced it with "Hi, I'm Dennis Hopper. You know, I used to be pretty wild back in the day, but now I'm clean and sober!" To which the audience applauded. And no, there was nothing ironic about it. It was like the whole world had become his 12-steps meeting.
Still, his performance as the "Russian" in Apocalypse Now pretty much defines the Conrad character for me. It was typically over-the-top, and probably overacted, but then that kind of fit the whole tone of the film. |

Did you really mean "old man", or something like "old boy"?
The kind of whack job persona (a la his photojournalist character in Apocalypse Now)of Hopper seems to have provided a model for dozens of "poor man" Hoppers I've met in the last few decades. Case in point: only two days ago I was practically accosted by a "Truther" in the pub who accused me of being a "Bush Operative"(I really must get back to Dubya as to where to send those cheques!). He was sort of the embodiment of a clean-cut crazed Hopper. |

One of the cable networks has been playing a very early Keanu Reeves film, River's Edge, about a murder and the dead body all the kids in town know about. He played the drug dealer adult role. That whole movie will creep you out, but fascinating nonetheless. |

Hopper was an over-rated, drug-addled, egotistical narcissist. I doubt whether he'll be missed by too many.

Well, I was gonna say "old boy", but I thought that would have seemed like too much the affected anglicism. |
