Whats the coolest thing to do for 8 hours?

Anyone know where to find the Taco Bell? Heard they have one! Wink

Also heard there is some tour I can take thats free for passengers in transit.. anyone heard of that? Whats up with that? Can you get off the bus and get back whenever you want? Or are you just stuck on the bus?

--

Also, no real strong desire to see everything.. I was there for 3 days about 6 years ago.. so already got the gyst of the city.. just wanna kill the 8 hours and get a small plan together..

Orchard Rd.is cool. Some good restaurants and stores there. But its bloody expensive. Check out Chinatown for some awsome and cheap food. Sentosa is cool, you can go hang out at the beach there, rent a bike and ride around. See the Singapore Zoo, its one of the best in the world. Walk around the downtown, by the Singapore River. Lots of cool things to do in Singapore.

Yeah, the zoo is worth a trip. And if you'll be there in the evening, you can go on the night safari.

Wanted to do that but never did. They got some kind of technological voodoo there so that you can see the animals when its dark. Singapore is the mecca of food. The best are the booths. Cheap but really delicious food. Oh, and the sushi at the airport is the best Ive ever had.

I spent almots 8 hours at singapore airport after an all night bender in hongdae. The airport runs a free bus tour you could hop off at an area of interest and make your own way back to the airport.

The beach sounds GREAT! Haven't seen one of those in 6-7 months since I went to Seokjo last September.

The ZOO could be pretty cool.. wouldn't mind taking that in as well.

How much is the taxi fair to get back to the airport? Looks like I'll do the free tour though.. and definetely just hop off wherever I see the first cool thing. Sounds like a good plan.

I hope to find that Taco Bell in Singapore as well.. sounds SO good!

Don't bother with the taxis. The local transit system (MRT) has been running right to the airport for two years now. It can get you downtown in about 15 minutes.

The free tour is run by Singapore Airlines, I believe. Ask about signing up at the information desks throughout Changi.

I wouldn't do it though. I'd take the MRT to the station nearest Little India. Great place to walk around.

Also, if you want to just chill out, take the MRT to the last stop on the same east end of the MRT line (there are two spurs), and walk through a great park by the water. As nice as Changi Airport is, the park and beach are a much better place to pass the time, and are only 10 minutes away.

Have fun!

I've done that a few times and always headed out to Orchard Rd, spent some time walking around, picking up books at Kinokuniya, and sipping a coffee when skimming my books and people watching. The Singapore newspapers are good too. Great time.

Try Orchard Towers (across from the Hilton on Orchard Rd) for a quick screw. Good selection.

can't offer any good advice. I heard Taco Bell is on Orchard Rd. but I didn't see it when I was there. For some reason old editions of the strait times end up here in Yemen. It makes me wish I was there instead of here.

If you haven't already gone try to fit a tour of Changi Prison in. Also, Clarke Quay has steps where you can just sit and hang out people watching on the river. Sentosa can be fun but tends to be expensive for the attractions.

Hmm...I think I remember finding a Taco Bell there, but it wasn't easy. It was tucked in some mall and only had a few selections. When I went there back in 2001, all of the fast food joints were like that, though...they had like 6-12 items. A couple of those were Singapore spins on things. You may want to Google the Taco Bell, though...I don't remember the road, but I do remember it being somewhere in the middle of town.

As far as what I'd do in Singapore...personally, I'd spend all of my time at the stalls. Screw Taco Bell; Singapore has some absolutely delicious food, especially when you find the hawker stalls instead of restaurants. Some Hokkien Mee and Teh Tarak, or some lamb and chicken curry...all delicious, all cheap.

Actually, my girlfriend and I just did this, last month.

Being kind of cheesy like this, we thought it would be cool to have a Singapore Sling at Raffles Hotel, where they were invented. Tasted like crap, but it was a fun time finding the place.

Little India was cool. I hear Little China's cool, too.

Saw the world's largest fountain. Was underwhelming.

Lemon's right, the MRT will get you anywhere, and it's almost as idiot-proof as the Seoul trains. (Nicer though, have doors separating people from the tracks...I thought I was in the wrong place.)

As far as the tour goes, two tips:

1) The information lady who directs people to the tour even said to us that if we wanted to see anything fun, we should skip the tour, and go on our own.

2) To contradict what others have said here, the lady told us that you can't get on and off the tour bus. The free tour one takes you right from the international area, and you don't go through immigration, so naturally they can't have you running around the city. I don't know if there's another one after immigration which you can take, she didn't mention it.

Anyway, find something you want to see, and go alone to see it. No problem.
