Hi there,

Having a bit of a hard time making up our mind heres! Time isn't so much an issue, but I'm only keen on seeing one garden and one water town.

From doing a bit of reading on the net, these are my choices:

Gardens:
Yu Yuan
Suzhou gardens (many of them!)

Watertowns:
Zhujiajiao, Zhouzhuang, Xitang, Tongli, Wuzhen

I am leaning towards Yu Yuan and Zhujiajiao, as they are the closest, but I'm worried they are going to be overrun with tourists, especially as I have to go on a weekend.

Having said that, we will be going to Beijing and some other parts of China, so maybe there's better elsewhere?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

I think most people only go to one "canal town." In my case it was Tongli, and it was quite nice. There were quite a few tourists, overwhelmingly Chinese, but I went during a major Chinese holiday. I really don't think you'll regret seeing one over another that much, so just do whatever fits your itinerary.
