I stopped at a job last week and am having my visa transferred to a new position that is turning out to be a nightmare from top to bottom - got hired by a 'friend' I used to work with (Korean) who is now a manager and turns out this friend resents the heck out of accomodating foreign teachers and really doesn't have any idea about doing the job. I have admittedly been a dumb dumb in the process as well.... signed a contract that I didn't get to read in its' final version. The housing has turned out to be in the school bldg, with no cable or internet and all sorts of strangers coming and going - it's also pretty doggone dirty. In any case, if I change my mind about taking the job while my paperwork is at immigration, can I stop the process? Someone told me that starting the job and then stopping once I'm into the contract period would be far worse than backing out before I actually start teaching next week. In a hurry and a heck of a pickle. Please post real ideas and don't waste a lot of anybody's time calling me a dumbass..... I already get that part. I don't want to mess up the chance to teach here but I also think this job will be a protracted nightmare.  Thanks all |

| I'm not too sure how you would get out of this pickle, but have you tried talking to immigration about it? If not, try tomorrow. Tell them your situation and that they would be wasting their time by processing your new visa. Again, I haven't been through this and Tompatz may fly to the rescue with a better idea. |

Hi There,
Hurry to the immigration office and ask about your papers ASAP the longer they have the more likely they are to be processed.
If they are still just sitting there you can stop it.
If the new date is written on the back of your arc card it is done and it will be valid from the initial contract date. It can be changed up until then. |

I am a bit confused but I will try.
1st - there is no, "the paperwork is at immigration" scenario for a transfer.
A transfer takes about 30 minutes after you get to the counter so either you are transferred to the new job or the paperwork is sitting on someone's desk.
A transfer requires a signed application form (the one at the counter in immigration). Did you sign one?
If not, then there is no "transfer" going to take place.
(transfer requires:
fee, application (with your signature), LOR from previous employer, new contract (with your signature), new employer business registration, new employer guarantor form (sponsorship), ARC and passport.)
If yes, you are basically screwed and have 2 choices:
a) take the job.
b) quit and look elsewhere. Cancel your visa and begin again.
