Has anyone applied for a UK criminal record check whilst living in Korea? I need to get a new one done and after looking at the disclosure scotland site http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/apply-online/ it states:

You can only apply online, if your current address is in the UK and if you have been living at this address for at least twelve months. If you do not satisfy these criteria, you will have to apply using a paper application form. |
So I'm guessing its a paper application form then, as I am not currently in the UK? Has anyone just gone for the basic disclosure online and gotten away with it? I don't want to go through all the hassle of sending forms abroad back and forth unless I really have to.
Thanks! |

I'm presuming you still have family / friends in England? If so just do an online application giving your home address, then get your folks / friends to post it to you here.
Remember you'll need to get it apostiled in the UK. Again, get a friend or relative to do this for you. |

Yep, this is fine, as I once got my mum to do it while I was in Thailand.
Just remember it's actually illegal under the Data Protection Act to have someone else sign the form to obtain your information. Basically just make sure your relative is careful! |

i did the basic disclosure online over xmas. they didn't ask for any proof that i was in the country. i had used them the year before though so maybe they had all my details on file or something.
if you do get the disclosure and then have it posted over here, the good news is that the embassy in city hall will give you a letter to avoid all that apostille stuff |

This is all great advice. I will definitely look into getting the letter from the embassy instead of getting it apostilled in the UK. Thanks everyone, I will get on it asap. |
