I've been working in Korea for two years at the same company. I want to change schools at the end of my contract, but I still want to stay in Seoul. I am getting really confused about what documents I will need (if any) for my visa.
An interviewer told me that I would need a letter of release. But someone else told me that I don't need this. So do I need a whole new E-2 visa with a whole new set of documents for my new job?
I am really confused and some clarification on the exact documents needed would be great. I tried searching for the info but was unsuccessful for some reason.
Thanks! |

Both options are possible.
IF the contracts are concurrent (NO break between) AND you have a LOR from your current employer then you can transfer between jobs. The other documents are the same as a renewal.
IF there is a break between contracts OR you do NOT have a LOR then you need to complete a new visa application.
CRC with apostille (or embassy certification), Degree copy with apostille / embassy certification (or original degree), original SEALED transcripts, new contract.

| So if you have a break of even a day between the contracts then you need all new documents and you will have to do a visa run I take it. Can the visa number be processed while you are in Korea working (if you have to take option 2)? Thanks |

Yes, the visa confirmation number can be processed while you are in Korea BUT not until the old job is finished so you would need a visa extension to carry you over the gap between your end of contract/E2 and your visa run.

I'm resurrecting this thread because there has been developments and I'm not too sure what to do.
Basically my school are saying that they do need these documents regardless of the fact that I have a letter of release and the date of my new job is the day after my old contract ends.
I tried getting my degree sent to me as I have lost my other copy. But it is currently stuck in the UK postal system and it may or may not be lost forever. I do have a scanned copy on my computer of my degree so would it be possible to send my school this?
Either way, if I cannot get a copy of my degree what can I do? Is there any way to call immigration and ask them for confirmation on what documents I actually need? Does anyone have a number?
I'm trying not to get stressed but this whole situation is not a good way to start a new job... |

You can get the school's documents and go to the immigration office and do it yourself. They prob dont know what theyre talking about and just sticking to their standard routine without thinking - how could you possibly know the system better than them? youre not korean.
You dont need the school to do it for you and you dont even need a rep from the school to go with you. Just get copies of your contract, copy of their business license and their sponsorship form and take those with the rest of the transfer documents that you already have to the immi office and get it done.
also, dont forget to get a new re-entry permit while youre there. they dont carry over to the extension and doing while there will save you another trip later. just check the box for reentry permits along with the transfer of workplace and pay the extra fee.
you can also call 1345. thats the english immi hotline. |

| Awesome thanks. Yeah, they haven't had someone who is transferring a visa before so I think they are confused. I called immi and think I have everything sorted now, so thankfully things are a little less stressful than before! |
