What mobile phone do you have?

What network are you on?

Are you generally happy with your contract?

Are any of the free phones on here any good? http://www.talkinkorea.com/

Peace

Depends on what you want your phone for really, and how often you plan on using it.

Do you want to use it mainly for the rare call? Get a flip that is as cheap, light and as small as possible. Almost any phone will do.

Do you want to use it mainly for texting? Unless you are a pro at a non-qwerty keyboard such as those on a flip phone, I'd suggest something like a korean-version blackberry or iPhone.

Do you want to entertain yourself on long subway trips? Get one that has DMB (digital media broadcasting, what you see all the Koreans in the subway watching from their phones with the antennas) built in or go with an iPhone.

I just picked up a LG Optimus Q from LG Telecom yesterday and I've been loving it. 1ghz Snapdragon processor, DMB, Micro SDHC card support up to 32gb, GPS, Augmented reality functionality (it is really neat), 3.5 AMOLED screen and a slide-out qwerty keyboard with full english functions. I would have chosen that or the yet-to-be-available in Korea Samsung Galaxy S as my personal choices.

Ah cheers. I don't really text that much, and I already have an ipod and a decent compact camera, so those features don't really matter, I guess.

A flip phone would be good coz it would protect the screen. I always get scratched up screens from having too much shrapnel and cigarette lighters in me pocke

I got a SKY phone. It's a gold color 3G slider you can watch TV and internet with. It's not on that website, because it's a regular contract phone model; not prepaid. I don't use TV and internet since it's in Korean and like 20 seconds was 3.5 megabytes for like 10,000 won just to take a look at my new miniature TV. That TV and internet could get very expensive which I never connected the NateOn service though the phone texts me often to ask me if I want to connect. It also loves to text me in Korean that I'm going to strike it rich and get loans 10X my annual salary at only 5%. Last month I only talked for a few minutes so the bill was a rock bottom 14,000 won. I got the phone free on 1 year contract out of sheer good luck after being told no at numerous other shops in my 3 week search. I think it's either LG or Samsung made, but it's branded as SKY. Cool technology.

I've been thinking about picking up one of those - It looks perfect for what I want out of a phone. But how much was it? Were you able to get a contract for it, or did you have to buy it outright?

I have a cheap Samsung Anycall handset that I paid 40k for at Technomart. It's a brick but it has survived some rough treatment at my hands. This thing has been dropped numerous times, has been totally soaked with beer, water and various other liquids, but it refuses to die.

Get the Iphone! But wait until the next generation hits in July. I wish I had waited, sigh.

I think I'm just going to get this 'pimp' looking phone, which is apparently free. I think it's on KT.

I don't really care for a smart phone, just something to make calls every now and then.

No idea. The phone company charges me automatically every month. It's around 20k-30k a month. My phone was pretty cheap too, maybe 30,000 won. It lets me call people, text people, take pictures and even play sudoku on it!

Expensive cell phones are dumb. Especially getting an iPhone when you're only going to be in Korea for a short time period (I hear they don't work back home).

Also, getting TV on your phone in Korea is stupid. I don't watch Korean TV at home...why would I on my phone?
