|
|
For a typical hagwon job. Looking for a job (2nd year here) and I want to find my own place. What should I expect? I've had one school tell me 300,000 and no key money, which just seems ridiculously low (I want to pay key money myself anyhow as I plan to live wherever I settle for at least 2 years). I was expecting at least 400, hopefully around 500,000. Anyone have experience with this?
Cheers. |

Assuming you have at least 10 million in key deposit money, at least 800,000 won a month. Anything less will have you digging into your own salary to pay for housing.
Housing in Seoul is VERY EXPENSIVE even for rundown dumps. |

Okay 2 things here
1) this is in no way the price you will need for everywhere in Seoul, there are dozens of areas where you can have 5 million and 400 a month
2) the guy is asking how much a HAGWON WILL GIVE HIM!
To the OP MOST Hagwons will give you between 300 and 400 a month.
If you get one giving you over 400 count your lucky stars.
MOST hagwons will NOT offer you key money, but some will, it depends on their funding. My first hagwon would have given 10 million if I wnated it, but I took their housing, but I also knew I was in a rich area. |

Key isn't the problem. I have a decent amount of savings. It's just the month to month expenses I'm worried about. I don't want 30% of my salary paying off the difference of my rent.
And ya, I've seen plenty of decent places with 2-5mil key money and 5-700,000 month. The really expensive places seem to be officetels, which I don't want to live in anyhow.
Anyhow, 3-400 is a bit pretty low, I guess it's worth seeing what housing the school offers. |

300,000 to 400,000 sounds about right for a hagwon, but I've seen as low as 200,000 in some of the job postings, and that's in Seoul! |

that's ridiculous... do they low ball on purpose for some reason or do the accommodations they find actually cost that much a month? |

200,000? Even 400,000 is not going to be nearly enough to cover your monthly rent for even an average place in Seoul. Yeah, you could live in a dirty unhealthy shoebox with lax security on the outskirts of town for 300,000 a month, but I doubt it's worth the trouble when you'll be getting sick constantly and your place gets broken into. And you'll be paying more for transportation cost also. |

Again you show a basic ignorance of what is out there for rent in Seoul.
You can get a very clean and spacious apartment for 5 million key money and 400 K in Hae Bon Chon. 2 or 3 bedrooms.
I personally have a lovely 3 bedroom Apartment in West Seoul for 380 a month ( but I put down a lot of key money.
There are many places where you can get a perfectly decent apartment for 400-500 a month
To the OP negotiate on the suppliment then, |
