When I lived in Pusan 2 years ago these places were everywhere. All you could eat meat for 5,000 W with all the extras (leaves, garlic, sauce, etc).

I heard most of them went out of business. Are there cheap places like this in Seoul? I know there are a few that are expensive.

One opened now near my home in my country town near Suwon, but it's 8,000 won...not bad. Me and the girlfriend are about to go try it.

By the way, my adult student says not to go to them because the meat is such poor quality. A cow is a cow is it not and kalbi/bulgogi comes from the same part of the cow? What is wrong with the meat? I really have no idea but maybe someone could clear this up. I hope I'm not about to go eat cow weener.

There's a place called Carne Station- well in fact there are loads of them- including one in Hong-dae I can see from here- 20,000 for loads of different kinds of food, including kalbi, bulgogi, all the leaves and everything. A lot more than your 5,000 but it's all you can drink- beer, spirits, soju (!)- anything you want although I think it shuts at 10pm.

Oh yeah, I've been there. All you can drink is definitely worth the extra funds.

We used to got to one in Chongno every now and then... I have no idea if it's still there or not, but it was 7,000W for all you can eat.

I agree with your friend though... the meat did seem to be sketchy. I usually felt pretty queasy after eating there.... It tasted fine, mind you, but I don't think it went down very well.

Well we went and it seemed pretty darn good. 7500 each which included the "pan chan" dishes such as mandu, jjab chae, bo chim gae, kim bap, guk su noodles, several other things and 4 kinds of soups.

We were surprised actually by the quality of the meat. The sam gyeop sal was thick and meaty, the kalbi as well. No stomach ache so far.

I think some of the reason people get sick from these is eating too much. I just wanted to keep eating because I could.

Well, if you're eating all the panchan, then in my book, you're not doing it right:)

Eating rice, mandu, chigae, whatever.. all take up space in my gut that could otherwise go to samkyupsal, talkgalbi, and bulgogi. I avoid the former to leave more room for the latter.

Of course, my girlfriend tells me I need to diet...

ryleeys = no girlfriend = no diet.

Of course, I'm also 160 pounds... which is about 20 under the average for my height...

I missed those places too. There were three or four near Texas Street in Choryang-Dong in Busan last I checked, but that was awhile ago. Most of the rest seem to have disappeared though I recall seeing one in Yonsandong last fall. Regardless of the quality they were great. Busan food in general was great because the prices were so reasonable.

www.obstadium.com

Semi-unlimited beef & beer for 17,000 (I think there's a 3-hour limit to your stay). They also have a lunch special.

Avoid Saturdays.
