I have been working in Korea for the past 9 months and just applied for a public school job through EPIK/SMOE for fall 2010. I just got an email telling me that I need to get a new, appostilled background check from the US. I have not been back to the States since I got here.
I have to go through the FBI to get this background check b/c the state where I am from, doesn't release background checks to any company outside of that state.
Is anyone familiar with this process? How do I get a background check from the US while I am abroad? |

1) Print the FBI documents from their website (especially the fingerprint card)
2) Get your fingerprinting done at a police station in Korea (one of the big -gu police stations, not the tiny -dong police stations).
3) Mail the documents to the FBI and wait for your results. (I did this from Korea twice, and both times my background check arrived in my mailbox 5 weeks later).
4) Take a trip to the embassy in Seoul to get the affidavit (in lieu of the apostille). |
