I love the Celtics but I pick the Lakers in 7 games. (4-3.) Kobe won't lose twice to Boston. ;c ) |

I think Kobe Bryant is very overrated. He is decent, and decent players that take more than their share of shots will run up the points statistic. He is a complete ballhog. The Lakers would be so much better if he had more assists. His ratio of shots made to shots taken is a disgrace. I also think that he is too arrogant. I hope the Celtics sweep the Lakers. |

Bryant, Gasol, Odom, Artest all 20-10 type of dudes.
Fisher, Farmar, Bynum... depth is retarded.
I'm hoping Phil tells Sasha to take a sick day.
And yes, I rep the 310 hardbody!!!!! |

Oh, wow. That's just sheer stupidity I'm reading! I'm not a rabid Kobe fan by any means, but what you posted made everyone else dumber by reading it. Let's look at the facts:
In the post season, Kobe is averaging nearly 30 points at 50% field goal percentage. That's 1 shot made for 1 shot missed. You can't get any more efficient than that while AVERAGING 30 points. Additionally, he averaged 8.3 assists in the conference finals, which is two less than Steve Nash or Rajon Rondo who play POINT. Kobe is a GUARD. I'd like to go further into making you look like a complete fool, but it's clear that you've never watched a game of NBA basketball, much less see Kobe even play in the postseason. And so much for your prediction on the Celtics sweeping the Lakers.

Game 1: Lakers forced more TO's, more steals, more rebounds, higher FG %, and played better overall defense than the Celtics. And, Kobe dropped 30 points on them. Please refrain from giving commentary on basketball ever again. |

Thanks for that Goldenpennies - its refreshing seeing idiocy on these boards that isn't directed only towards Koreans. Nice to know there is still run of the mill sports ignorance around as well.
As for this series.... NOBODY on the C's can guard Kobe (the only guy in the world who could now plays for the Lakers). Watching Ray freakin Allen on him last night was beyond sad. Tony Allen does a decent job - but he's being asked to do way too much defensively. Lakers in 5.
As to the Kobe argument - there simply isn't one anymore (and frankly there never was). He is the best player of his generation, and at this point - he's much, MUCH closer to MJ status than Bron Bron is to "Kobe" status. Lebron is terrific, but Kobe is a much better BASKETBALL player and always has been. At Lebron's age, Kobe had 2 rings. For me (at 27) - Kobe is the best I've ever seen.... Jerry West said yesterday he was the best Laker of all time RIGHT NOW - and I'd have a hard time arguing with him. Thats a pretty heavy compliment..... |

Kobe is up there but HE IS NOT Jordan "esque."
You can argue that he had more championships than Lebron at Lebrons current age but he also had the best player in the entire league to play with for 6 seasons. I couldn't stand Shaq but he was the single most dominant player in the league during his laker tenure. SImply unstoppable. MOST tier 2 alll stars could have shone under shaq's wing. THe guy FORCED teams to triple team him for christ's sakes.
Kobe also had a mediocre team for 2 years and could barely make the playoffs. Lebron has a mediocre team and takes them to the finals with one of the best regular season records in the NBA. My point? Kobe needs depth and if he doesn't have it he will whine until he gets it. As arrogant as Lebron is, he is a way better individual player and has never HAD THE LUXURY of playing with 3-4 all star players or with one of the most DOMINANT players to EVER play the game (shaq).
You also can't just credit Kobe for his scoring efficiency. When you have 3-4 guys on the floor perfectly capable of putting up 20/10/5 on any given night if they are told to, it opens things up quite a bit.
Kobe is great. Easily a top 10 player in the past 30 years which is no easy feat but he isn't god like all the nuthuggers claim him to be. If Lebron bitched for 3 allstars (at the appropriate positions to compliment his game) to be put on the cavs I think his team woould be jsut as good if not better than Kobes team.
You can argue that Kobe is god all you want. The fact of the matter is, a lot of his insane stats/championships come part and parcel due to A. PLaying with perhaps the most DOMINANT centre to ever play the game and B. PLaying with a team that has 3 other potential all stars. If his supporting cast all those years were like AI's 76ers (slightly above avg to mediocre) it could be argued he would have just been another volume shooter ballhog unable to take his team anywhere consistently. Lebron can win games without much help which is absolutely supernatural. Flame away. |

Problem is he didn't supernaturally win the ones that matter.
Kobe will go down as one of the best ever. So will Lebron but Lebron has gotta win a championship( he really needs a few) to cement his place in the NBA elite. There is no doubt that a team palys the game and a star needs a team to win. Kobe has had good players around him for a while. I'm not sure what Lebron would do with a supporting cast.
The NBA is getting weaker and weaker all the time. No one wants to rotate on D and take a risk of getting dunked on. There aren't too many guys who can shoot off the bounce. Skill levels are getting lower and lower. I love basketball at all levels but I really hate how the game is over shadowed with money, egos, and highlights. This is goin' on at all levels. Even high school ball is watered down.
I could go on and on. I think the Lakers win this year in 6. |

But let me propose another simply but often overlooked reason that Bryant remains superior to LeBron: Kobe is a better basketball player. Not a better athlete, which sometimes gets lost. A better basketball player. He dribbles better, passes better, has more ways to score and understands the game better. Which is not to say that LeBron is inferior in any of those areas. He is great. But he's not as good as Bryant.

To differentiate between Bryant and James, the Suns' Grant Hill, who has been charged with guarding both, turns to a baseball metaphor.
"LeBron has the pullup jumper and he takes you to the rim," said Hill. "He has the two pitches, and, trust me, both of them are great. But Kobe is like the guy with all the pitches. He brings his fastball, his change, gives you something on the corner. LeBron will overpower you but you might know what's coming. With Kobe, you're never comfortable."
