| I'm pretty sure they're only obliged to pay airfare to get you home at the end of the contract if you're already in the country. Forgive me but... if you've been in Korea for two years, could you not pay for a flight yourself? Sure a few month's saving and you'd have the airfare, if you don't have it yet. |

If you are diplomatic about it there should be no harm in asking, all they can do is say no. Did they pay you any relocation expenses at all? That is what my school did, though they still saved a bunch of money. On the other hand, it may have been a helpful factor in getting hired in the first place, highly qualified though we may be.........
fergalreid, I am not sure how the OP's ability to afford a ticket has anything to do with his question. |

Um, they didn't fly you here?
Also, you didn't get a renewal bonus when you signed each new contract? Usually schools either provide round-trip airfare or give a bonus (EPIK: 2.0 million) when you renew. |

Public Schools will fly you into Korea at the start of your contract and fly you out of Korea and the end of your contract. I don't know where they'd be obliged to fly you home for a holiday, with the exception of for teachers renewing their contracts. |

I didn't say they were "obliged", and he probably should have discussed the issue before he signed the contract, but some schools have an allowance built into the contract even if you are already here. My school gives different amounts depending on where you fly in from. If already in Korea, they give the same amount as if you were flying from any Asian country. It's not as much as one gets for flying in from the states, and I would agree that his chances are slim of getting them to do it at this point anyway. But it would not hurt to ask, and it has nothing to do with whether he can afford a plane ticket or not. |

They will NOT grant this request, that is a quarantee.
I too was already here when i was hired, asked for that money, they said no, that they only gave that if they HAD to fly you. Those already here simply lost that. They give you that flight to get you out of your country if you are there, the DO NOT give it to you as a "free bonus" if you are already here.
They also contractually give you flighst home between all contracts which you are suposed to take within 6 months. Now if you have NEVER taken one of these ( which would be dumb) you MAY, and its a longshot MAY be able to convince them to send you home.
BUt you can not just play the "you didnt have to fly me here" argument its will 100 percent not work |
