|
|
I was trying to place an order this morning and had the following message appear next to the PayPal payment option on the payment screen.
"If you are located in Korea, Paypal payment service is restricted."
I've ordered plenty of times and never had this problem, but I can't even select the PayPal button now. Tested it with a couple items from different sellers to see if that was the issue but no luck. What gives? |

I emailed someone about this and got an immediate response:
"Recently we blocked PayPal service in Korea, but overseas customers can still use it. PayPal claimed that fraud suspicious transactions were placed, so we closed the service. Residents in Korea can still use Korean bank transfers or Credit card as payment methods." |

Using Korean Credit cards to pay is a god damn headache. Paypal linked to the Korean Credit card was so much easier. |

Weird. I also emailed them and have yet to get a response.
So I take it they won't be planning on reinstating this option then? This was also the only way I pay for things on Gmarket. Boo.
I can never get any of my foreign credit cards to work, either. Anyone had any luck with that? I've tried several (Visa, MasterCard, AmEx) with no luck. They just get stuck on the processing screen.
Sparkling... |

So if you are American and have your American Paypal account linked to an American credit card, you can still use it, but if linked to a Korean account you can no longer use? |

It must be based on the shipping address, because my PayPal account is US-based. |

I"m guessing gmarket was not smart enough to know to only accept payment from "VERIFIED" paypal accounts.
VERIFIED accounts are protected by Paypal's buyer protection, so even if the transcation was fraudulent, Paypal would reimburse GMarket anyways. |

Very true. With Gmarket you can only pay by credit card using Internet Explorer but you could use Paypal with other browsers. Now even Korean Paypal accounts linked to Korean credit cards won't work. Maybe Gmarket knows to block you out from Paypal using your IP address so using a VPN could do the trick? |

I have the same problem... I've used paypal in the past to make purchases on Gmarket and now I can't.
When I try to use my Woori bank card on that popup payment window all the Korean text comes out jarbled. What a stupid system -- Solutions, anyone? My American Visa card doesn't work on Gmarket for some reason. |

It's blocked me all the way where I can't pay through any of the selections. Not even using Korean bank account. There is a foreign credit card selection, but wallah, this is about the only computerized place in the world where Visa and Mastercard aren't accepted.
There are other options such as sending money(private account) and real time account transfer for payment from Korean bank accounts, but they don't work since all I get is a popup saying, "We are dealing now." Guess they decided we are not a part of the equation.
"We are dealing now." ????? LOL |

How do you do it? I didn't see that payment option in the checkout screen. If I can checkout and print something off to take to the bank, then I'm once again, a valued customer. I do know it's possible to send money to anyone if you have their account number. I couldn't find any Gmarket checkout options that make sense in the line of working, but even after trying all the options, I was able to delete the items from my cart where checkout processing was impossible. Seems dumb you can't use Paypal, Visa, and Mastercard if located in Korea, because the idea was to have payment systems so business could easily transact. Well, that's the fundamental idea of E-commerce and now it's turned off. |
