So....I don't live in Seoul, but I can get there in 2 hours at most...about 1 hour if I catch the express bus in a different city. So, questions are:

1) Is there any KEB bank open on the weekends where I can open up an expatriate account?

2) If not, how late are they open on the weekdays?

they're open until 4:00 or 4:30 p.m.

ask you're school to let you off early one day so that you can take care of this. your school should at least let you take care of your banking needs. if they decline, tell them that you'll most likely contract terrible headache and have to call in sick next morning. Razz

Well I already have a bank account at NH, and I'm not sure how much they will like me switching banks. But......KEB sounds easier for me to deal with. Honestly it's a choice between giving me one day to open a bank account, or a day once a month to go to the bank (outside the town I live in, I have to take a bus) to transfer money. Meh.

There are a few branches in Seoul that are open on Saturdays. I forget where exactly they are, but you can call 02-3709-8586 and find out.

I don't live in Seoul either, but having a KEB account has been very convenient. I do all my banking online and haven't had to go to the bank in over a year and a half.

Make sure you take any information about your bank account back home if you want to set your account up to be able to do online international wire transfers.

I did call, and she said nothing about Saturdays. Some where open on Sundays, though none of the English speaking branches. That was about where my phone died, so I thought I would make a post since my charger is at home Laughing

Even if they weren't English speaking branches. They probably know enough English to at least get your account up and running. They do know how to say "name" and "sign" for the bank book and internet banking.

I opened my account in Uijeongbu on a Sunday morning.

They were open from like 8am-5pm I think (but you should call to clarify).

Either way, on the weekends they offer a few basic services such as account opening and overseas wire transfers. Other than that you need to go during the week.

They couldnt set up internet banking for me or my international debit card that same afternoon.

I had to come back during business hours to have the internet banking (and online wire-transfers) set up and they had to mail me my debit card because they can only process them during business hours.

It was all worth it in my opinion as KEB is very foreigner friendly.
