|
|
Hi:
I was thinking of building a web site for adult conversation instructors ("hagwon style") which would include:
(a) short reading (news story and other topics) followed by
(b) a simple list of questions giving students their "free talking" time
Could also include:
(3) definitions of target vocabulary (from reading) and a
(4) grammar point
I've searched the web but haven't found one I could consistently use in a pinch.
What's your advise?
Would it help or just duplicate what's already on the web?
Teaching conversation classes over the course of a year, I went through conversation texts rather quickly and began developing my own handouts (nothing new).
I thought, it might be possible to build enough handouts into a site to help instructors throughout the course of an entire year. |

this is the efl book I use for my adult class.
Its very free form and all the adults like it so far. It can be made more simple or in depth depending on the level of your adults.
Its great for conversation. Each chapter has a 3-4 paragraph introduction and about 10-20 questions relating to the topic. I recommend it, though you have to kind of edit your lesson on the fly depending how the adult students are responding to the questions. We can finish a question in 30 seconds or take 30 minutes depending on the dialogue generated.
Anyways here's the website. If you are not in a position to purchase the book let me know via pm and maybe i can help you somewhat. Also try out the first lesson, its on the webpage.

^^In a similar format to "Express Yourself" are "Let's Talk" and "Let's Argue". I use all three of them. Most students really enjoy them. Good books! |

I did it, but it's a lot of work. I spent 2 months all day making 480 YT videos, took 3 months to be a YT Partner, now AdSense pays $6 a day now @ 4000 views/day, might go lower as advertisers get tightwad.
The AdSense on a web site is so low that it's not worth it. Ex, ThaiPulse.com gets $5 a day in AdSense after 3 years of building his site. His YT page gets more views than his 13 websites.
You can write the articles and questions. It takes over an hour per lesson to do that. Making video and posting takes another hour.
There are lots of sites with dialog w/o vids. Videos are more rare because it's so much work. |
