Hi,
I've recently been invited to Soongsil University for an interview and teaching demonstration for 10 - 15 mins. The teaching demonstration needs to be on "reading or writing"? I'm leaning towards a reading lesson as I've taught much more reading than writing this year.
I wondered if anyone out there could give me a little bit of advice on the things I should try and do in my 15 mins. The job would be for a freshman course at the Uni so I'm guessing I should choose a pretty short intermediate level text.
I would spend maybe two minutes asking some introductory questions on the topic; another couple of minutes explaining and drilling some key words in the text; listen and repeat the text with the students; and then go through some reading comprehension questions (maybe getting them to work in pairs) on the text with them.
Does this sound about right as a general outline? Are there any elements I am leaving out or is there anything I've mentioned above that I should leave out? The class sizes are about 25 students I believe so I intend to prepare the sample lesson with that number in mind.
I would especially love to hear from anyone that works for has worked at Soongshil, or even anyone that has interviewed there before. I have trawled the forum for what I could find but there doesn't seem to be a whole lot mentioned about the interviews on there (except one post mentioning that the interviewers were nice and cordial and a few other morsels). From what I can find about the Uni, it seems like a great place to work.
And one final thing: it seems the original add that I applied to on Dave's ESL is gone (it was one with a May 10th deadline). I made notes of the add and it contained mention of the fact that they have some sort of preference for Engineering graduates (which I am). Does anyone know why this might be? I could make some educated guesses but not with any conviction - does anyone know for sure?
Many thanks,
