Depends on if you enjoy living in America or not...JK

It is a lot different to me I grew up in Texas, but have lived in Arizona and Alaska also. Living here can be difficult at first. Of course you have the language barrier which is the biggest obstacle, but other things come into play.

1. There is no concept of private space here. your personal bubble is gone.
2. Public Transit here is a dream. I had never been on a subway or even a bus before. I always drove everywhere.
3. Cost of living is pretty low, considering your housing is paid for.
4. Drinking heavy is not only acceptable here, but at times, encouraged.
5. Koreans do things that we consider rude, but to them is a normal way of doing something. You have to have some patience here.
6. The students are respectful outside of class, but in it they are wild(my grade 1 MS fits this bill)
7. Korea is a generally safe place to walk late at night, even drunk and alone. Granted there are exceptions, as with any big city there is crime, but it's nothing to alter your lifestyle around. I've seen many a young girl in a short skirt at 3 a.m. walking by herself
8. Koreans aren't direct or straightforward with things, especially if they know it's gonna affect you.

There are many more that others can contribute. cheers

What's life like living in Houston?
Depends what you like.

Seattle?
Great.

San Francisco?
Fun, expensive

Omaha?
Sucks ass.

New York?
Can be overwhelming. Expensive.

You're talking about a gigantic nation. Korea is tiny.
Many cultures vs. 1 or 2??

I would only live in a handful of cities in the U.S.
I will probably not be back in Korea after this year.

What do you want?

HINTS for the future - Do not ask open ended question like above and two read the bloody forums. Lurk go ten or fifteen pages deep you will learn about life here in Korea.

Hello,

Skippy is known around here for being a curmudgeon. He gets upset if people don't do their own searches/give details Wink.

You may not get a good idea of the life here by reading the forums, for learning about life here videos and blogs are better. Life differs here depending on where you live. Location and job can make or break you so we need more information..

Your post was helpful in providing a general sense of difference between the life in two nations.

Could you elaborate on this point though maybe an example? thanks.
people will bump into you all the time, people will blow smoke right next to you, cars don't follow traffic laws, apartment neighbors stay up till all hours doing things, etc, etc These are things I have experienced, but I've only been here 18 months

I'm not sure I'd be happy in a busy city setting even though it has alot to offer.

I'm just wondering how korean sense and sensibility compare with american people generally speaking?

well, let's put it this way, if you're one of those people that demands common sense and organization in most/all things, it's probably best to stay away.

it's fun if you meet two of these three conditions:

1. have/make a lot of friends
2. have a girlfriend
3. like to drink and party
