I'm planning on moving to South Korea in August and would like to go to Grad school when I come back to the states. I'm trying to decide if I need to take it before I leave. Can you take the test in South Korea? |

On-line should be OK, unless it's tougher in SK due to the cheating. |

Honestly, take it before you leave. While technically you can take the GRE in Korea, you can only take maybe twice a year in the paper based format.
When I wanted to take it a few months ago, I had to fly over the Japan to take it, where it is offered every week in the computer format. |

I just took it on Saturday, June 12. It's split-test format in Korea because of the rampant cheating. That means I did the writing part a month ago (have to go to Seoul, and it's done on computer), and the Verbal/Quant on Saturday (I went to Gwangju - it's offered in a few other cities).
Kind of a bummer having to wait for scores. But I think the paper test is much better than the computer test. You can go back, change answers, guess. Not like on the computer test where if you screw up early on, your entire score plummets.
The next test is in October, I think. You have to do the writing part something like a month or more in advance of the paper part. |

I coupled mine with a vacation in the Philippines. I did it in Cebu. It was the computer based exam. Not too difficult. Set up was nice. A bit cold in the room as the air was blasting. |

ETS can be a bunch of robber barons, but they take no s--- on their standards and reputation. The full computer tests were taken away from Korea years ago because of allegations of hacking and cheating.
As others are saying here, you can take the paper test twice a year, and some actually prefer this. Otherwise, take it before you come to Korea, or make it a holiday. I wrote mine in Bangkok. It was easy to schedule and arrange, and you can write anytime. |
