|
|
I'm moving into my new place tomorrow. It's brand new and the owner is an ajumma. How do I go about getting my locks changed without pissing her off?
I'm worried she'll have some sort of confrontation with me about giving her the keys. I'm fine with letting her come in to check my place if she knocks on the door when I'm home. However, I have a feeling she wouldn't respect that I'm a person living in the apartment if she had the keys and might feel free to let herself in to snoop when she felt like it.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? How do you locate a locksmith? My new place is in Jukjeon. |

key lock? = go to home plus and buy yourself another one. You need a screwdriver and 10 minutes to change it. It is really simple (4 screws). Cost is about 20k won (including a screwdriver).
Electronic lock = just change the PIN code.

I'm under the assumption that the electronic locks have a master code.
I've changed my pin code, but somehow my landlady has let people in to do work on the window while I've been at work. I assumed she had a master code, which I'm not happy with, but since its a small building and no onsite staff, I'm not too concerned |

I don't think that's possible ... she must have a key. |

i'm going to have a closer look tonight, but I didn't think the electric locks could have a key.
The lock mechanism is on the other side of the door, then on the outside is the keypad.
I do have a door handle that serves no locking purpose.
hmm... |

My friend had an electric keypad lock installed, and there were keys to go with it (in case of power outage or whatever).
The keypad itself busted, so he needed to use the key anyway |

makes sense about the keys for power outage. I'm going to also see if it's battery powered. That could be a fun surprise if/ever the battery went flat.
Sorry for hijacking! |

with those electronic pads there's also a key. you just slide a panel on the front of the lock and you can use the key there. i've got a key for my apartment, but i'm sure someone else does too. |

If one does not carry the key with them for their electric lock when they go out, but instead leave it in the locked apartment, then isn't that person kind of screwed if the battery goes out? But then again, if the electric lock can be picked, then the only point of having it is for the convenience of not having to use a key every time, which defeats the purpose of having increase security via password.
After some google searching the electric lock should indicate that the batteries are low and need to be replaced via blinking light. |

First thing I did when I moved into my place (electric lock, electric keys... 2 keys for me, one to the Ajumma, one to my school) was to reprogram the door code, and then re-sync the keys (with my lock you have to do all of them at once) so that only my two keys worked ...
About a month later I see the Adjossi standing in my hallway, waiting around not doing anything... So instead of using my key (and giving away that they could be reprogrammed) I punched in my code... Heard a satisfied "ahhh" as the old man walked away...
Few days later the Ajumma confronts me and asks me what the code for my place is... Gave it to her, then promptly went to my place and changed it again... |
